A Fair Expectation for Coach Dooley.

I believe the kicking game, If not corrected this season, Will be what ultimately leads to Dooleys demise. We have the talent to keep it close in all of our ballgames... Opinions may vary. The entire special teams Unit should be one of the best in the country... Dooleys has had ample time to straighten it all out. Expect Excellence... Just dont hold your breath. Right Jay?

That is a fair prediction. As prolific as this offense can be on paper, in SEC play every point counts.

In games of "attrition" every punt and kick off counts as well.

I think you are pretty spot on in this post. Palardy has been as big a flop as Chris Donald to this point, if not greater. His psychosis isn't necessarily on Dooley, imo. Not going all out to find a fitting replacement to a known issue would be on Dooley. I know nothing of the incoming kicker. Have heard conflicting reports actually. So, it remains to be seen.

With the schedule it should be 9...but 8 will probably do it.

I don't see a good reason to win Georgia or South Carolina, we're going to lose to Alabama, and Florida/Missouri/Mississippi State/NC State are all toss-ups.

Hard time seeing more than 8.

While it's understandable that everyone has different opinions about what constitutes a 'fair' expectation, I think it's very important that people judge Dooley based on the expectations they had when he was hired. It's perfectly reasonable to temporarily lower expectations for a coach who inherits a bad situation. It's simply not acceptable to lower expectations because he fails to live up to the expectations you already had.

It also depends on what work you expect "fair expectations" to be doing. Giving the coaching prowess we've seen, I think it's fair to expect 7-8 wins. Talent will get us so far, but we'll lose 1-2 games in which we're the more talented team. But that fair expectation is not at all the same thing as acceptable standard.

The "doing well enough to not be fired expectation" is probably 9 wins. Perhaps 8, but it better include a win over Florida, Georgia, or Alabama, and the losses better be competitive. If we go 8-4 and get trashed by Florida, Georgia, Bama, and Carolina, that's not okay.

UT has at least as much talent and experience as USCe. UT should beat UF this year as well.

UT has a clear talent advantage over MSU, Mizzou, and NCSU. If DD is the right guy then 8 should be the floor not the ceiling.

Barbara Dooley folks

Weak again. Saying Dooley needs to have a good product this year or be gone makes me his mommy?

Why don't you go on another diatribe calling DD a pos for lying to mothers about the vfl program. Every drama queen on here looked up to you after that bit of knowledge.

"Coaching prowess" is pretty difficult to discern when you don't have the players to compete.

Babs folks, she's here all day!

Exactly.

Bama - better talent, but we should compete
UGA - slightly better talent (on the road) we should compete
USCe - Im gonna say slightly better (and its slight) on the road. We should have a chance to win the game.
UF - even across the board. At home no reason we shouldn't win.

No reason UT shouldn't win one of those four.
A loss to anyone else on the schedule is losing to inferior talent, and should be viewed as a bad loss.

Actually, I would argue the opposite. The situation you described is an opportunity for a great coach to demonstrate their prowess.

I agree with this to an extent, but in some cases things are just so bad that no amount of coaching can really overcome it.

My gosh, had Dooley beaten LSU in 2010 with that team and Kentucky last year to get to a bowl, even in spite of finishing what would have been 4th in the East, things on this board would be dramatically different. Kind of amazing to think how just a few tiny little things in those games could change perception so much.

Not little things, imo, but you are correct. It would have been different. There would not have been a pattern of letting games we were in a position to win slip away.

Situations like LSU and Kentucky are exactly why folks question Dooley. Great coaches don't continue to find ways to lose games. They grab opportunity by the throat when it presents itself despite adversity and win.

I would throw in USCe last year too. Without Lattimore, they were a very average team.
