Dogs

Seriously though, if anyone knows of a good rescue within...maybe 500 miles of Huntsville, let me know. I have looked but havent had any luck

I have three other dogs that I have rescued....I seriously dont have room for a great dane.......getting borderline hoarder status

Have you tried posting him on one of the internet dog rescue websites? We placed a rescued German Shepherd that way a few years back, I could find out from my wife what website she used.

Honestly I havent. I have only tried looking for Dane rescues and havent really posted him or his information. Any suggestions on a good site? The thing I am worried about with that is that he will go to a dirtbag home and we would rather keep him than have him go through that.

Well, my wife is unavailable this morning, but I'll get some information from her this afternoon for you. She posted the dog on a website, she went and visited the family and interviewed them before placing the dog, and even did a follow up visit to make sure everything was going well. It turned out great, but I realize they don't all turn out that way.

Just throwing it out there. One of my neighbors put his Lab mix on Craigslist, and met several people at a convenience store across the street before meeting an elderly couple that ended up taking him. They still have him and keep in touch. It was a match made in Dog heaven. :dunno:

I dont like using craigslist.....remember I am in north alabama and having to meet random people online is just asking to get raped

That's where a carry license comes in handy, although, I admit I'm not familiar with the carry laws in the state of AL.

I am a CCW licenced owner in Alabama..........however, I would prefer to not have to use it

Do any of you have a dog that likes to eat grass? My Lola eats grass whenever she thinks I'm not looking. I read somewhere it is a technique used by dogs to clean their stomachs. Nasty habit, IMO.

Samus eats grass when she wants to puke. If I see her doing that, I know it's time to get the carpet cleaner out.

Yeah, several of our dogs eat grass. Often they do it because they have an upset stomach or constipation. It doesn't seem to hurt them, as long as you don't have any toxic plants in the house that they may be able to chew on. Occassionaly it may cause them to hurl. Fortunately, my wife has gotten really good at identifying "that look" before they do and getting them out in the back yard just in time, most of the time. The rest of the time, well, that's just one of the joys of dog ownership.

Our dogs also like to eat dirt sometimes. The vet said they do that out of an instinct to supplement their mineral intake, even though they probably don't need to with modern dog food nutrition. We try to discourage it, but heck, dogs gotta be dogs.

Where most dog owners go wrong, is in trying to treat their dogs like they're people. Dogs are happier when they are treated like dogs (notice I didn't say "mistreated"). If you've ever watched The Dog Whisperer much, you probably have seen this. It's one of Cesar Milan's pet peeves.
