When eating traditional fish and chips in England, do people put vinegar and/or tartar sauce on the fish? Serious question here.

Well, it's depending on the region, I put Tartar sauce on the fish and vinegar on chips, however I do know people who do the opposite. For instance, I always have curry sauce with my chips, other have ketchup, if there is no curry sauce then I have curry ketchup. I don't always get fish either from a fish and chip shop. :)

Thanks, I do the same with the chips. Sometimes vinegar and sometimes mustard. Usually, just cracked black pepper. I like a drop or so of malt vinegar on the fish. A couple from England recently opened a fish and chips shop here. I finally stopped in a few days ago to check it out. They advertised authentic fish and chips. Inside was decorated mostly with Diana memorabilia. Anyway, seemed like she offered tartar sauce as an afterthought. Thought this might be a part of the Americanization. Just curious. Thanks.
