could? yes. And by year's end, he is likely to be, but Z. Rogers will be our 3rd WR come September. Nobody wants to admit it, but it is what it is. Without knowing anything in particular about Patterson, if nothing else I'm sure he will need plenty of work learning the playbook and learning how to properly block SEC defensive backs.

Zrogers wasnt our 3rd best WR last year so I don't think this is what would happen - I think VDallas would have a better shot of being the slot guy than rogers

but either way if we sign CP he will be in that role sooner rather than later - so id say by florida game

CP will not make a difference in the rankings. He will be very limited what he can do at the beginning of the season because he is not an EE and will not understand the offense fully (see any first year WR). I will put money on that statement regarding him NOT making us a ranked team. A 5-7 team who lost to UK will also not be included in the rankings.

Zach Rogers will not be the 3rd main WR going into the Spring, that role will go to Raijon Neal who our fans continue to forget about despite his strong showing at the end of the season (remember the ONLY bright spot in the UK game, despite his fumble).

I really hope we land CP. The offense will be hard to stop with those 3 receivers to cover. Also I see no reason to not start the season off with a good winning streak

lol, of course he is. I direct you to the Kenny O'Neal thread back when he signed with us. Everyone is the "real deal" until they get to practice and realize they are surrounded with 84 other people who are the "real deal." Obviously, I'm not saying that he isn't, but to assume that he will come in and be a starter is ridiculous.

Though I agree with you in theory, in this instance it's not really ridiculous.

To say that Zach Rogers starts over C. Patterson is more of a stretch than to say CP will be starting over him.

Patterson is legit and will help the team big time. But I have never seen a football team receive poll votes based on incoming players. Might have missed it...

I really think Patterson will come to UT, but I am not getting my hopes up. He knows that having Bray throw to him is his best chance at making it to the league. Do you guys think he will return kicks/punts?

happens in bball all the time - but you are likely right - game 3 is the quickest we could be ranked (assuming we win it) - i dont really care - in the SEC if you win you will get high in the rankings so it doesnt really matter where you start

if you arent good you will be exposed so again, doesnt really matter where you start

We'll see, but I don't think it is. When you have JH, DR, and MR to throw to, your 3rd WR must be as good at run blocking and running routes as he is at making big plays, thats why Z. Rogers has 10 or so starts. The fanbase may not like it, but thats just how it is. I hope I'm wrong, but there aren't many JUCO WR's that come in and start immediately, esp those that aren't EE's.

maybe kicks, but I doubt it. DY did a good enough job to secure the starting spot on kicks and punt returns. Anything can happen, but my guess is no.

Rivera will have a huge year though if he stops dropping passes.

FYP

IMHO, Downs and Clear both have a good opportunity to move ahead of Rivera. His blocking left much to be desired and he flat out drops too many balls. People ride Rogers about drops but most of his that I saw were at least difficult catches. Rivera drops balls that hit him in the chest.

Ehhh, Rogers dropped a lot of easy catches too. Granted, he caught most of them, but they weren't all hard.

I think Rivera did pretty well, and I have no problem with all our TEs seeing the field, but I don't expect either of them playing ahead of him.

Rogers makes every pass look difficult by jumping for every ball thrown to him when there's usually no need to. It does't matter where the ball is he inexplicably jumps for it.

Concerning a different post If Patterson is as good a kick returner as he appears to be there is no reason to think he wouldn't be back with DY on kickoff's.

^This...
That prevented the run from developing. - IMO

I had no intention of making a defense of Rogers... only pointing out what seems to be a pretty significant double standard. Rivera made drops in critical situations. I think Downs looked good on his few chances. I only saw one ball thrown to Clear- he caught it.

Right on. I agree I'm excited to see Clear on the field next year. Big time athlete.

So Rivera is solely responsible for the run game sucking?

I would not say solely as there are obviously a lot of things that can affect the run game, however, if you don't have TE's that can set the edge that is a huge problem and can keep you from being able to consistently run the ball out of certain formations
