So he was a backup option.

R Brown was never committed to us...CSS liked Robinson that is why the offer was extended....Did not depend on what Santos did....

R Brown supposely committed to State? Or MS....really unsure...opened a slot.....CSS liked him and offered....He was never a Santos Backup and was should not be considered a backup to R Brown because Brown was never committed to us....

You may not agree with that, so you can call him a backup option if you want....not that important anyway..

I don't believe Texas has lost any LB or DE commits, I guess he isn't a backup option for Texas either.

So if your son lets say had committed to Va Tech but had been a life long Vols fan. Then Tennessee offered a week prior to NSD you'd tell him to to still go to Va Tech???

:post-4-1090547912:

I highly doubt any of us would do that, an opportunity to play at your dream school.....yea, you take it.

I am a VFL and I want Dalton Santos to stay with UT. However, I wasn't a football player in school....I played baseball. I wasn't good enough to get recruited by any D1 (it was still D1 back then) schools so I don't know what DS is going through. I do, however, know what it's like to dream about stepping onto the field for a D1 school, particularly the University of Tennessee. So, if I were in his shoes this is what I would do; I wouldn't care what school I was commited to if the University of Tennessee offered me a scholarship, and it could be the day before NSD, I would take it. Some will say that is dishonest and not fair to the initial school that I commited to, but the reality is these are kids with big dreams. I would want to fulfill my dream of playing for the University of Tennessee, just as I'm sure DS wants to fulfill his by playing for Texas.

Don't misunderstand this post as a statement to get others to get off of DS, it's not. This was just a high school athelete's perspective. With all of that said, I still hope he chooses Tennessee.

Calling any and all insiders...do you guys have any new info about Santos? I really feel sorry for this kid. It sounds like this is a clear case of the recruit really wanting to go to one school, and his family wanting him to go somewhere else. Hope they let him choose the decision that he feels is best for him.

seriously, does anybody know what situation is at Texas in terms of how many more they can take? I just read on ESPN insider that Daje Johnson (WR, DGB backup plan) is about to flip from TCU to UTx. They have 24 verbals listed on their rivals site.

Start looking at this thread you will find several links to Articles. Then head over to Rivals and look there for a while a few more will be headed. Then go to the Txs Boards...I don't have time to through all this to you...do some research. He was a backup due to a decommitment...but thats ok....educate yourself....either that or they are bringing him in to be a DE or RS does not see the field till soph or Jr year according to some.

1986 huh? Nice try but I said 20 years! Try again though.

For those with the ignore comments, I couldn't care less. The obsession with these kids is kind of creepy to me anyway. 500+ pages of bs for this kid, please....

again, scott galyon....early to mid 90's... drafted by the giants, i believe... his nfl career was average...but he had one....
:salute:

For everyone who has said that if they were in the same position as Dalton and were offered last minute by TN, they would drop the school they were committed to and take the offer...have you considered if you would do it knowing that you were truly TN's back-up plan and they plan on moving you to a position that you have NEVER played in your life? If they were going to play him at MLB, then it's probably a no-brainer; however, they will probably move him to DE. Something to think about.

You're right....that is absolutely something to think about. I'm not saying this isn't the case with DS, but is the change in position something that is for certain or just VN speculation? If I were in a situation that I would have to change positions, I would have to consider what I wanted to end result to be....play college ball or would I expect to make it to the next level? No doubt the things you mentioned, if they are in fact the case with DS, should factor into his decision, but all things equal.....I'm going to Tennessee!!!

Great post, no matter what anyone else says.

I fully realize he was a backup option for them, much like Chase Robinson was for us.

Thanks you guys. Austin was great. Ate a bunch of food from trucks, hung out with hipsters. Now I'm in Dallas and it is boring/awful.

Dallas is a good stable place to bring up a family but not much to do. Awful...well depends what part u r at. If u want something kind of like Austin head over to fort worth. Pretty cool town.

Good point, but I would have chosen The Vols no matter what if the offer was extended. I walked on at UT Martin in the mid 80's as a LB. If Tennessee would have given me any sort of look, I would've been on the hill as fast as I could. That is me personally.

With that said, he is way more talented and a better physical size than I ever was, so the change in position may be of more concern to him. I am referring to his possible aspirations of playing in the NFL someday. I knew there was no chance of that for me, but he has a chance. The potential change in position may hold him back from going to Texas.

Here's to hoping he's a VFL in the end.

You make good points however the key thing is he is COMMITED to Tennessee. If you are holding out hope from your dream school, dont commit, dont take up a scholarship, dont put UT in a situation where they tell Henderson to look elsewhere because you are COMMITED. Thats the problem in this situation and many others. Hell, some kids commit and during the interview to announce it they say they'll still take visits. Dont COMMIT if you arent ready to honor it. I like Santos and I get the whole dream school but dont commit if you're waiting on your dream offer unless your ready to say no to it which is what he should do.

Is there any truth to the story making the rounds that Santos will not know for sure if he will have a spot with Texas until NSD? If that is true, it would put UT in a bad position with any other recruits who are looking at the Vols. Someone will get left out and the Vols could have one open slot with nobody of value to fill it.

I would like to keep DS but if hes gonna decommit i wish he would just go ahead and do it.

What is the holdup? Anyone know? Is he still all Vol or what?

I get what you're saying, but untill the LOI is signed Santos can do whatever the hell he wants to do. Nothing is binding till the LOI is signed. The verbal means squat until Feb. 1. Is it an inconvenience for us to be going through this exercise this late in the game? Absolutely. But its well within the rules and everyone would be praising the coaching staff's recruiting prowess if we were seemingly about to flip a guy that we wanted that was verbally committed to another school. As long as he doesn't pull a Gabe Wright, I'm not gonna hold it against him if he goes to Texas although I think that UT is where he needs to be. If he plans on having a career at the next level, this will be one of the few times where he has the power to choose his own path.

I love how fans/coaches get mad at kids and their definition of committed..........only to see coaches jump to better opportunities when they promise the kid they will be their coach all 4 years or they start recruiting over said kids head and try and keep it from the kid, or get irked when the kid thinks it might be in their best interest to re-open their commitment.

Loyalty and commitment is a two-way street imo.
