'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

Historical facts mean nothing with regard to the worth of programs today and what the B12 replaced the lost schools with.

Ask yourself this:

If given the choice, which pair would the B12 rather have?

The Big 12 would rather have Mizzou & A&M.....

.....not for football reasons but because of more eyeballs watching TVs means more $ in TV contracts. Whatever markets A&M brings to the table are already covered by other Big12 schools but the same can be said for TCU. So it comes down to Mizzou vs WVU and the 2 major in-state markets Mizzou delivers are clearly superior to what WVU delivers.

Still, as fans, we don't personally see any of this $. In purely football terms, the Big 12 got better with the swap and the SEC became watered down with inferior programs.

I didn't mean to derail the thread with the WVU/TCU vs A&M/Mizzou conversation. It only came up because one poster said the Big 12 was one of the worst conferences when in reality it is the 2nd best conf behind the SEC. If you guys think A&M is a top notch football program, I'll let it go.

Sure you did......It wasn't even a valid arguement....Start a thread the next time in the Pub or another Forum.....Didn't need this crap mixed in with the Santos issues....The SEC is and will always be the Power conference....Yes you may beat an SEC team ever once in a blue moon, bottom line go a season of 8 games and then talk about it....

Glad you offered the kid.....He will be a good one....Sal will give it his best shot....on Wednesday....After reading the article posted regarding TX and Santos...Think we have a good chance.....

Thanks to TX for turning this 17-18 kid into a recruiting whooore because TX the almighty could not close a deal on the another recruit.....Its the shiny object thing with kids and I do not want him here if he does not want to be here.....We need players that can hit the field and play we have a good staff and a great DC that knows his job and buisness with LBs and the 3-4....

Fans are solid and you have a few fickled. But the players here are beginning to adopt a mentality of all buisness.....So if he were here missing his girlfriend back home I wouldn't want him to be with her even though she runs around with a weak group of teams...

I love how if he goes to texas he will sit the bench and never become anything, but if he goes to Tennessee he will be an All-SEC player and an NFL draftee.
Who would want to go to a program that has won games 10 games 80% of the time the last 10 years, and played for 2 national titles in the last 6 years?

Kid is an idiot.

That is exactly what will happen.

You of all people should know this if you are a Gator..

It is all about early playing time, coaching and the exposure brought on by the SEC as a whole...He will get it....Texas Network is good for Texas but they tried to empire it and sell a product that does not have the umph it use to have...

Chances are greater for him at any SEC school than at Texas....

It's like I said before, it wouldn't matter if the SEC added Prairie View A&M and Montana, the SEC is still the dominant conference, by far. In fact, anyone could make a very good argument that the B12 and Pac-12? 16? (whatever...) are neck and neck now.

I don't really have an opinion either way b/c honestly, doesn't really matter to me. We're just arguing about who plays second fiddle to the SEC.

They won in 2005 and lost to Bama in 2009.

Yes, they play super easy schedules, had a losing season last year like we did. They beat USC to win a title, and got beat by bama in the other title game. They almost always have a top 5 recruiting class and should win 10 games a year.

I remember the USC TX game best ever.

Forgot about the AL TX game...

Really didn't care with the exception of SEC vs big whatever....SEC seems to deal with the Big Whatever fairly well in games.....

Oh...and to get back on topic...

I would like nothing more than Dalton to spurn Texas so the tea sippers in Austin would realize that they're not entitled to Texas recruits, just b/c they're Texas. UT used to think we were "entitled" and our coaching staff got lazy which just started a downward spiral...and here we are today.

I don't wish Texas any ill will....and I hope Dalton goes where ever he's happy and feels he's led to be. Hopefully that's the original UT. We'll see....

I am thinking CTJ is working on his its time to cut the cord, let Texas know sooner rather than later, out of courtesy, speech.

The "entitled" feeling that Tennessee had pushed Randall Cobb to UK. Tennessee offered Cobb really late just like Texas is doing to Santos.

I hope the kid honors his commitment and becomes a part of a special class.

FWIW this is how I feel about the situation. If I am a talented kid that is from Tennessee that got an offer from say Ohio St. early on and the Vols didn't show any interest, I would verbally commit to OSU. That being said, if the Vols came in late and made me an offer, I would be Knoxville bound. It would not matter to me if I were starter or back up because running through the T and being a member of the Tennessee Volunteers is my dream. I think if some of you would be honest with yourselves, you would do the same thing that Santos is most likely going to do. It sucks for us if we lose him, but let's not be too critical of someone taking the opportunity to live their dream. Not too many people get to do that.

So is Tennessee on the decline too, based on the last 2 years?

Using your comparison, they most certainly are.

I would argue that we declined Fulmer's last year. Besides decline is an ongoing drop in performance. We have sucked for 4 years now. But to pretend that Dooley hasn't had 3 solid recruiting classes or that our recent hires in the coaching department or in Hart as the new AD weren't solid hires is just being a kool aide drinking homer that is pitiful enough to take cheap shots when a program is down. Now if you want an example of a declining team look no further than those jort wearing goofs from Gainesville.

I thought Texas provided a good education. Guess I was wrong.

Mizzou and A&M will no doubt not come in right at the top with Bama and LSU, but they certainly are not inferior programs watering down the SEC. IIRC, Mizzou was ranked number one in the country a few years ago, and A&M is consistently in the top 25 as well. I think these two teams fit perfectly into the mix.

I don't think Texas fans feel entitled to every Texas recruit. OU, LSU and others cherry pick elite talent from Texas all the time. Santos is a lifelong Longhorn fan so that is why we fell confident he will commit once he is on campus with Mack.

A&M in consistently in the top 25 as well

Consistently? Nope.

This past season, they had bigger expectations than they had had in over a decade. Senior QB, lots of returning starters, preseason top ten ranking, easy Big12 schedule......and they went right down the toilet.

I have been on the fence about Santos for awhile, but I am saying now, he isn't a VFL. I just hope he has the decency to tell the staff the truth and move on. If I am wrong, then great, but I just don't feel it.

I live in Austin, and I can tell you right now that Texas fans absolutely feel entitled to every Texas recruit. Every recruit that goes elsewhere either wasn't wanted or couldn't handle the pressure.

He's been truthful with everyone from the start, so I'm not worried about him pulling a fast one on us. If he legitimately changes his mind to accept Texas' offer, I'm sure we'll know immediately. That being said, I agree with you. I'll be stoked if we manage to hang on to him.

Unlike in previous years when Mack Brown has basically filled up a year prior to signing day the Longhorns are still putting their class together. Big news came out this week when Texas offered in-state linebacker and Tennessee commit Dalton Santos and it wouldn't be surprising to see him flip on an official this weekend.

I love how I use the word consistently, and you talk about one year. Just go to this link and do some research and get back to me. Too much to get you with.
