Our starting five next year?

Crews will benefit the most. Playing the 4 he'll be able to make a lot more plays. When Chism steps out for a 3 we'll still have smoebody down low to rebound. He'll also get the benefit of some mismatches at the 4.

"lofton is not going pro this year."

No way he thinks about going pro. He has vastly improved his ability to get to the hoop but he needs his senior year to put him in the position to play in the NBA

Starting 5:
PG-Ramar Smith
SG-Chris Lofton
SF-Jujuan Smith
PF-Duke Crews(PF on D, C on O)
C-Wayne Chism(C on D, PF on O)

2s:
PG-Jordan Howell
SG-Josh Tabb
SF-Cameron Tatum
PF-Anthony McClain(PF on D, C on O)
C-Ryan Childress(C on D, PF on O)

Others:
PG/SG/SF-J.P. Prince(likely SF)
C-Brian Williams

Williams will probably redshirt and McClain isn't a Vol yet. I think McClain and Crews are a better fit at PF on defense because of weakside defense while Childress and Chism are better fitted at PF on offense because of outside shooting.

b/c these match-ups will the Alabama's, Florida's and LSU's make us look like a high school team.
Sorta like they did in each of the Vols' victories over them this season?

I'm not as convinced as you guys are that Lofton won't go pro. Fans say that about their players all the time, and then they go pro one after another.

But those kids go pro on potential and measurables.

I hate to say it but Lofton doesn't have unlimited potential like a 6'6 guard who isn't polished.

Hopefully our starting 5 will be:

Ramar Smith
Lofton
Tatum
Chism
McClain

That would mean that we get McClain and that Tatum is better than JaJuan and McClain is better than Crews. Not saying anything bad about the two we got now, just if we have that starting five then that would mean the two coming in would be incredible players. Don't think Pearl would ever want to start 2 freshmen again no matter how good they are.

All I know is I'm tired of seeing the ball go down to the post and praying that the guy walks b/c if he doesn't then he's either going to lay it up or get hacked and go to the line for a three point play. I just want to see us next year knock some people on their butts when they swing it down to the post.

i believe that would also be called a foul.:nono:

if childress continues to develop as fast as he has this year and doesn't hit a wall, i wouldn't dare say for sure that he wouldn't be.

I would. He went from 1 ppg to 5 ppg and 1 reb/game to 4. If he improves by 4 points ppg again (which I'm positive he won't), it would still be a huge disappointment for Duke/Wayne not to average that much.

JaJuan would not be replaced by Tatum. Why would you start a true freshman when you have a guy who has proven that he can put up 15+ ppg 4+ boards, and 2+ steals? He had a terrible game, I give you that, but it's no reason to discount the rest of his season, especially when Lofton was out. Also, I can GUARANTEE you he is not the defender JaJuan is, and half of the game is defense.

People don't point out the fact that Chism was 1-7, and 0-5 from three. Compared to JaJuan: 3-11, 0-7 yesterday.

People don't point that out because Chism is a Freshman, while JaJuan is a Junior and is supposed to be one of the leaders of this team. JJ is the 2nd scoring option behind Lofton, so when he has a game as bad as he had against LSU, it really cripples this team, whereas Chism can have a bad game on the offensive end, and we can still win.

That would be stupid to start Tatum and McClain over Jujuan and Crews. Crews would be a great PF but he can't play there because of lack of depth. McClain is very limited on offense right now and very skinny. Tatum is good but Jujuan will be a SR and should be all SEC. That is also a big loss of defense.

I don't see Jajuan coming off the bench, he's our #2 scoring option...but, I suppose it's possible.

I envision this lineup:

1 - Ramar Smith
2 - Chris Lofton
3 - Jajuan Smith
4 - Duke Crews
5 - Wayne Chism

Tatum or Prince could start at the 3 if they earn it...and Jajuan could be a nice spark off the bench. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. One thing's for sure, we'll be deep. Prince, Tabb, Childress, Tatum, Howell and Williams will all contribute.
Thats what is see. If we bring in 2 post guys then we will no longer have the problem of only having 3 post players and be able to play Crews and Chism at the same time.

The ole saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems appropriate right now. The only thing that will be replaced is Dane and if memory serves me right, Josh came off the bench alot for him. So if thats the case. R Smith, C Lofton, J Smith, J Tabb, W Chism. Possible for the 4 spot as a committee approach.

This would just be wishful thinking on my starting five. Not criticizing JaJuan or Duke just want to see McClain and Tatum be as good as Lofton and Durant. Everyone has a wish list.
