He has a better winning percentage as a HC than Dooley, and he was a DC for years at the U before being promoted to HC. Additionally, he is an outstanding recruiter. Dooley was never a coordinator on either side of the ball, and is a decent to good recruiter. Dooley has pedigree but not much else. On paper Shannon is an upgrade over Dooley as a HC.
I'm not advocating Shannon as the next HC for the Vols just pointing out how under qualified that Dooley is to be the HC at Tennessee.
