Hmmmm ... interesting concept. What will happen when the men's team is successful and packs the house for three years, makes it to Sweet Sixteen, and is otherwise as successful (relatively speaking) as the women's program? What happens when a single game in the men's NCAA tournament draws three times the interest of the entire women's team season?
When Pearl creates a top 5 program for 10 years, then we'll revisit this topic. Summit has done it for 30, so asking for a third of the success shouldn't be asking for that much.Hmmmm ... interesting concept. It's not awkward because he understands what CPS has done not only for the university, but the entire women's game. She is an historical icon that may end up being the figure head of Title IX history for decades to come. CBP (and I'm as big a fan as anyone) has produced two very good seasons and started to lay the ground work for building a successful program.that's exactly my point in this thread
if bruce pearl starts going to sweet 16's and elite 8's on a consistent basis, it would just seem awkward for him to be coaching on a "women's court"
but i dont think he will leave anyway....this is just hypothetically speaking...

If you can't separate history from "what have you done for me lately," then you clearly don't understand the arguement.
Jeez ... people are making a mountain out of a molehill about this Summit Court thing. If somebody was willing to pay me $1 million + to coach Division I ball, I wouldn't care if the entire court was painted neon pink with sideline advertising featuring feminine hygiene products...
Lindsey Nelson Stadium is named after a journalist and announcer. Do the Diamond Vols rank behind the school of journalism and all it's students?
If I had resurrected a program from the dead, was treated with adulation from the local fans, and had constant national media attention, I'd probably stay where I was. Of course, the "paid more" argument is moot, because Bruce isn't going to leave because a school can pay him more than UT. Only a NBA team could offer substantially more than UT, I think.what if u were offered a job at a university where basketball is its first priorty and you got paid more?
He has and will. It's called money, and CBP will get more and more of it every year he stays. Monuments (court namings) last a very long time and should be reserved for someone that made a significant contribution over a LONG period of time. Two years doesn't even get a kid a degree. Two years does not make a program. Two years does not establish longevity. Looking forward to two more out of Pearl, and then two more. So on and so forth. After about 4 or 5 more of those two year stretches then I'll get into a debate as to what sort of monument the university should dedicate to the great CBP.that makes no sense at all. anyways, i can see what ur saying...it is very important to respect Pat Summit for what she has accomplished....i just think Pearl should recieve the respect from the AD that he earned
i agree with the idea of putting "the summit" sticker on when the women are playing and take it off when the men are playing....thats a great idea.
Don't ever understimate a man's pursuit of a goal he has set on a project and the willingness to put all things aside to complete it. Now, whether that's building UT, going to the NBA, or returning to his alma mater, only CBP knows.I agree... Pearl will be on the first thing hot leaving Knoxville if these jobs open up.
