... without a win over Florida to close the (regular) season out. Right now, we aren't even in the top 25 (pending what happens Monday with the new polls).

And, if one of these mid-majors should happen to lose their conference tourney to a team that is currently not even in our rearview mirror, then that will shuffle things even more.

No time to be celebrating just yet.

Great win today... it's good to get that road win, but lets not burn down Knoxville just yet.

what do mid major tourneys have to do with us possibly getting a six seed?

Most commentaters pay attention to RPI for the first time for selection sunday. Ours is easily top 25. I would be surprised if we got anything lower than an 8 seed, and I would not be surprisd at all if we got a 6 seed. Even if we dont beat Florida, if we beat Georgia, and then do well in the tournament, a 6 seed is defidently a possibility. If we do all that and beat Florida we might even get a 5 seed.

Probably not. However, find me 24 better resumes. It's not like there is this huge pool of teams having outstanding seasons.

At this point I feel we are underrated. The selection commitee will probably realize that when they look at who we've beaten, and who we've almost beaten.

Well, if we lose the next 2 games, then are 1 and done in the SEC tourney, that is gonna be a lot of pressure on us to even slip in the tourney, especially if one of the at-large spots goes to a team that is 15-15 and won some mid-major tourney.

(In other words, we need to be rooting for teams like Butler to win their conference tourney. And really, you can make an argument that Memphis needs to win theirs, also, even though CUSA is technically not a mid-major, but is in a weak conference this year.)

Don't bank on any sympathy this year from the committee. They went through a lot last year when they gave us a 2 seed. That is still fresh in their minds...

Now you are pointing out ways that we won't be a six seed. So what if we win those last two? Then are we a six seed?

Another big if... beating UGA is realistic, but it is on the road. Beating Florida... not realistic. It could happen... if we actually begin to hit free throws, Dane finds his shot, and we defend inside well and rebound... but that is a lot of things that have to happen simultaneously on one afternoon.

A lot. Say Northern Iowa wins the MVC - then SIU would get an at large bid, thus, one less spot in the tournament and SIU wouldn't drop below us in seeding.
But SIU will be ahead of us anyway and i dont see how Northern Iowa getting in would affect our seeding. I do understand that it would knock a bubble team out, but how would it affect us possibly getting a six seed?

Once again. If is a long way off of no way. Neither of us is going to win this argument untill Tuesday night. Then we will see.

I'm talking more about it affecting our chance of getting an at-large bid more than I am about seeding. If we nosedive in the next week or so and are one and done in the tourney, then the whole 6 seed argument becomes moot and we could be at 20 wins going to the NIT if Butler, Memphis, or SIU lose their conference tourneys.
