'12 JUCO DB Otis Jacobs (A&M signee)

We need the JuCo DL, cut me some slack I'm not a total moron.

But 75% of this board would mock another program that relies on building themselves on JuCo players.

It would depend on 2 things...

1. Where is the program now?

2. What is the quality of the JUCOs coming in?

In better days for Tennessee we took a Chuck Smith and a Julian Battle and I think those turned out pretty well for us.

You are correct though, when Dooley has his 2013 class done, I would anticipate we will only take JUCOs the way Saban does with guys like Cody, Menzie and now maybe McCullers.

This.

This is what true contenders in our league are doing. Not playing kids that were in home ec playing spades a few months ago

Also helps balance numbers in classes. For future recruiting proposes. Since these jucos will grad in a couple of yrs

Saban takes quite a few Juco players...

You do not want to build your team on Juco players, unless they are Cam Newton. You just want a few here and there to increase talent, depth, or fill holes.

Tennessee, unfortunately, has a lot of holes right now. CDD is being pressured to win now... and that is what he is trying to do.

Also, tell me who in the country would pass up on Autry, Jacobs, and Sentimore? Few to none.

And that's AWESOME for 2012 and 2013. And then they graduate and we are playing freshman and sophomores again.

No, we'll be playing Juniors and Sophomores with some outstanding Freshman sprinkled in.

This is a method that served Meyers at FL very well. He always loaded up on EE's and JUCO EE's, particularly on the LOS, are even better as they've had another year or so to physically mature.

I'd expect Dooley to back off JUCO's in the future, but our roster is still playing catch-up and the clock is ticking on Dooley's tenure and fan's patience.

Just realized that I'm placing this totally out of context. DB isn't really what I'm concerned about. We will have Coleman, Thomas, Gray, Orta, Crawley, McNeil, and Randolph--pretty sweet. The fact that we only have one current non JuCo DT committed and the hopes that Carson and Saulsberry develop as our future worries me.

I simply made the comment about being uncomfortable about taking so many JuCo kids in this thread because it was the first time I'd really read through it (and it's about a JuCo).

If we take two more HS DT's next year than they'll be Sophomores or RS Freshman in 2013. LSU is doing pretty well with their two starting Sophomore DTs.

Agreed. That speaks to my point about quality.

If we take Patterson, Otis Jacobs, Sentimore, Jacobs and Autry, all will play in the fall barring injury and probably 4 of the 5 would start.

We are talking about stud level guys, not Gooch part two.

If this guys visits he's a Vol. Told TOS he is coming in this weekend or next.

Hubbs said he wasnt coming this weekend.

6'1 188lbs 4.31 40, confirmed.

WANT!!

id like him also jmoore 4.31 is fast but scouts eval has this to say:

Jacobs is a return man and corner for his Gulf Coast team. He has quick feet and an excellent hip turn transitioning into coverage. While he lacks top end speed, his quickness and ability to turn and run keep him in good coverage position. Capable of lending support against the run, Jacobs is an adequate tackler. Needs to work on his second turn, finding the ball on deep throws, but overall, very good in coverage - Scott Kennedy

not doubting you but he as fast as you said or is scout wrong?

He's my son roommate at MGCCC. Otis is from the same high school as Otha Peterson. I think both him and Sentimore will b at UT n January from what I'm hearing but u never can tell with 19 year old kids. Otis has good speed and he's great on special teams I think that both Otis and Sentimore would be immediate help. I hope we get them both. Go Vols!
