'12 JUCO DT Damien Jacobs (Florida signee)

Jacobs said he's still committed to Tennessee but Florida really has him thinking. He might visit Miami but isn't sure, Autrys decision has nothing to do w/ his & he will have his final decision in a couple weeks.

Autry + Jacobs + Sentimore are locked up according to OCI (his avatar is "the three amigos" now)... until he's wrong I'm gonna take him at his word.

I know this is probably just 2nd hand news so nothing against you... to me it sounds like Jacobs just wants to hit the beach for a long weekend.

I think I have this right:

Jacobs and Autry were 2010 high school graduates who went to JUCO and are early grajimates from EMCC and have 3 years to play 2 seasons.

Sentimore is a 2009 high school graduate who redshirted his Freshman season and played in 2010 at Alabama. He is at JUCO now but doesn't need to graduate and will have 2 years to play 2 seasons.

This is correct, and Sentimore maybe the best out of all of em.

Agreed, I always wonder about visits to places like FSU and Miami. If I was a top recruit I would definitely hit some beaches in December and January.

Where did Jacobs and Autry sign out of HS? Any issue in them graduating from juco?

Jacobs signed with FSU out of high school (see here) and didn't qualify.

Autry appears to be one of those JUCO rags-to-riches stories. I can't seem to find anything on him out of high school. I think they got him strait from high school (see: Autry poised for breakout year).

And if they're graduating in December then there's not a problem with grades. I'm going off of what I had to do to graduate from a Mississippi JUCO from 20 years ago (sigh) but I think it's still the same. You have to apply for graduation a semester in advance, and they'll tell you if you're even close to not being able to graduate. They should already know for the most part and just be finishing up classes.

Thanks. Graduating from a juco isn't as easy as most think as far as the number of classes go. Juco kids that are qualifiers out of high don't have to graduate to be eligible at a D1 school they just have to have 40% of their degree completed when they start the D1 school and a lot don't graduate from the juco. For a non-qualifier to graduate in 1.5 years sounds very tough to me.

Jacobs qoutes from new espn insider article

“I messed up early in high school and was always playing catch up,” Jacobs said. “So I didn’t qualify. The junior college experience has been good for me. I grew up a lot and learned a lot about myself. I learned that no matter what and no matter how talented you are you have to have the grades.”

“I really liked them when I saw them this summer,” Jacobs said. “They have some good players and are doing some things. But they are short in some areas. When I get up there I expect to win. It’s something that we all want to do. We have to start winning some games at Tennessee. I feel like I can come in and help out right away.”

“I visited Texas A&M and Florida,” Jacobs said. “They were two nice visits and I enjoyed both places. I am going to Mississippi State this weekend and Texas Tech (12-16) next weekend. I am taking these visits to make sure that Tennessee is the right place for me.”

“I can stop the run very well and rush the passer,” Jacobs said. “But I think I can be a dominant run stuffer.”

Sounds like we still lead but are hearing footsteps. I believe one thing in our favor, if Jacobs wants to be a part of the 3 amigo package, UT is his best choice. Not sure if FL or Bama has room for all 3 or offers immediate PT. It may be late for the Texas schools to pull all 3 and MSU is MSU. It is critical to these 3 that they get early PT to advance their careers.

I'm not keen on him taking the other visits, but I like where we stand. It appears Jacobs wants to take the role of team leader and step in on day one and spearhead a change at Tennessee. Like everything I saw in those quotes, especially regarding the grades.
