You should listen to the hard working types who struggled and finally made good, but sometimes the best purveyors of advice are those who were exceptionally bright but made bad decisions. The latter normally see the truth quite well, unfortunately.

The ancient Egyptians used to believe that you didn't walk forward into the future, rather the future was at your back and you backpedaled, blindly, whilst you were doomed to watch the past flowing away from you, like a scroll, with the most recent past obvious and near to sight, and the more distant past rolling away on the scroll until the conscious mind could no longer see it or perceive it, as it was wrapped under the folding end of said scroll. The future is, of course, unknown and hidden in the unfurling end of the forthcoming days in the conscious scroll.
