Dane Bradshaw

Personally, I'm not sure why he keeps getting bashed. The whole 'he's only getting minutes because we don't have anyone better' angle is about as deep as a puddle. He's not an SEC caliber player? Look at some of the numbers from the Florida game preview on UTsports.com.

Big Game Dane
Three times in his career Dane Bradshaw has made a late shot to knock off a nationally ranked team ... Two of the teams that fell victim to his late-game heroics were unbeaten entering the game.
Jan. 21, 2006 his lay-up with 20 seconds left gave UT a 78-76 lead and eventually an 80-76 victory over No. 2 Florida. The Gators entered the game with a 17-0 record and were the last unbeaten team in the nation.
Feb. 22, 2006 his steal of an inbounds pass and layup with 15 seconds left gave Tennessee a 74-72 lead and a 76-72 win at 12th-ranked Florida. The win gave the Vols the 2005-06 SEC Eastern Division title.
Dec. 18, 2006 against 11-0 and 15th-ranked Oklahoma State he stole the ball with 20 seconds left and then hit the game-winning tip-in over OSU's 6-7 Mario Boggan and 6-8 David Monds with 1.9 seconds left to give the Vols a 79-77 victory.
Bradshaw Does It All
One of the most versatile players in the nation, Dane Bradshaw can and will play any position for the Vols from point guard through power forward ... Originally recruited to UT as a point guard, the 6-foot-4 Bradshaw started every game last season at power forward for the Vols ... In 2005-06 the Memphis native was second on the team in assists (116), rebounding (5.4 rpg), and third in steals (56) and blocks (11) while his assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.76 led the SEC ... Had a streak of 181 minutes (seven games) without a turnover as a junior last year.
Bradshaw leads the Vols in assists (106) and is second in steals (42) and blocks (13).
He has led the Vols in assists 14 out of 22 games this year and recorded a career-high nine dimes against Coppin State (11/19/06).
Had nine assists against one turnover while adding seven points and seven rebounds against Tennessee Tech (12/28/06).
In SEC games he is averaging 6.0 assists per game and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.6.

And let's not add the leadership quality or the fact that he can play any position on the floor, regardless of stature. And how many times has he been matched against a guy that, when you look at them, seems twice his size. But he still got those numbers didn't he?
Rock on, Dane!

Great, use marketing garbage from the UT SID to support your argument. Our SID made me look all world, but that was a long way from the truth and I comfortable admitting that. As for the stats, by default he has to generate some by virtue of being on the floor. The ones he does generate are OK and in no way merit all the love thrown his direction from fans. I just don't get it.

I know this has come off as a bashing, but I am not down on Dane, just not quite on the bandwagon.

Do you people know Dane Bradshaw came out of high school as a 2 guard and is only playing the 3 or sometimes 4 spot because there wasn't anybody else who could play the position and was asked to play out of position by the head coach? And by the way, what is your favorite color hat?

I believe Hat's favorite color is olive skin........

Señor, sólo recientemente vine a América. Puedo decir inglés muy pequeño. Por favor écheme una mano y trate de no criticarme. Cuando me pongo a donde puedo hablar bastante bueno en inglés, lo diré en aquí.

If you know the game of basketball you know that if you have 5 guys on the floor looking for their own shot all the time and to be the star then you have an unsucessful squad. Dane is the few and far between player these days that is willing to swallow his pride and do what he can to contribute and help the team get the "w"

Bradshaw is obviously only out there because there is no one with superior athletic gifts on the team to take his spot. So, yeah, he's out there because there's nobody else. But, he is also doing a helluva job, IMO, with his role. I love watching him play.

Bradshaw does not look for his shot for a simple reason. He can't shoot.

Hat, your condescending manner notwithstanding, I do respect your insight and knowledge, and agree with you more often than not, but come on, man, you know as well as I do that there's more to being a good player than being a good shooter. I'll gladly take 5-7 ppg from Bradshaw as long as we get some steals, assists, rebounds, and flat-out hustle. Scoring points is generally not UT's problem.

Let me put it a different way: UT trails Florida by 2 points, 2 seconds in the clock, and there's a wide-open look from 3 to win the game. I'd much rather have Bradshaw taking that shot than, say, Tabb, Howell, Passley, Chism, or, god help us, Childress.

How about any of the other 2 guard types in the conference?

Bradshaw's 3 point % - .319
Tabb's 3 point % - .343

Would you still rather have Bradshaw shooting that shot?

I would just as soon have Stephen Pearl taking that shot. The result would be the same. I realize shooting isn't the only important skill. It is my point that Bradshaw does not contribute enough in any other category to offset the fact he is a total offensive liability.

No. Bo Outlaw played almost a decade in the NBA. The only basketball Bradshaw will be playing post UT will be in local rec leagues.

I love the Magic and I saw them play their first Championship game vs. Rockets and HO (one of the best centers ever) and all I have to say for this experience is thanks Nick Anderson.

IMO the reason for all the conversation is that Dane hasn't been doing the little things recently as good as he was in the past. I think everyone would agree he's not a great shooter, that's not his niche. So if he's not going to be getting a lot of points, is a liability on defense and turning the ball over like he has been doing in recent games then he is losing his value to the team. He even said himself he hasn't been playing good as of late. Just like everyone one else I think he gives great effort and he's given us a lot of good memories, he's just not getting it done right now.

I love the Vols but for all the we live by the three talk we have not shot the three worth a @@@@!

Hat I will try to give you a serious question for once. Do you agree with taking the leash off of the offense and let them throw up three's at will? Do you agree Pearl is coaching the offense correctly? I think Pearl is great but something does not click on offense.

A couple of years ago Bradshaw was the most criticized player on the team under Buzz.

I'm surprised after 4 yrs he still hasn't developed into a decent shooter. He was one of the players expected to step up when Lofton went down, big disapointment.

I feel we have no size but great speed so why not beat people off the dribble, set more pics, give and gos, draw more fouls in the paint. Lets get creative and not launch threes from 100 feet away. Hell penetrate and kick the ball out for an open three. We dont take many open looks.
