who cares?Let me put it this way.
If UT was #1 in hog wrestling and it was on TV, would you watch it? How about if they were #1 in use of fabric softener?
what, taking pride in something your school does well is wrong or something? who are you to decide why someone should or should not root for a particular sport? just because you find it boring, and unwatchable, doesn't mean that someone that doesn't is pathetic....regardless of why they tune in.
and if they truly didn't find some sort of value in attending or watching, i doubt they'd watch regardless of how good they are.
and i'm failing to see what's unrealistic about that.
the whole point in having college sports is to be competitive and drive school pride...regardless of the sport.
so if your women's bball team is good....and that's why you watch...then i'd say that that particular program has done it's job.
and let's be clear, i'm not particularly fond of women's bball either, if they do good, great, if not, oh well, i don't lose sleep, and i also agree that if the lady vols had been historically mediocre, it would rarely, if ever, even be brought up. but i'm not going to call someone pathetic for tuning in because they're good.
i mean is there any room for the consideration that the fact the lady vols are the flagship women's bball program is reason enough to watch for those that choose to?
gimmie a break LG.
I'd watch a camel race if one of the camels had a power T branded on its rear end.
Exactly. Hog wrestling would be about a million times more entertaining to watch than women's basketball.
I would sit in the top row of section 310 at TBA for hog wrestling before I would sit in the floor seats for a Lady Vol game.
ok, i'm lost. i give up. how do you pretend to care???? what on earth would be the reasoning for that???? that makes no sense..................... i have no idea how to respond to this anymore............but let's give it one more try..........What I do judge as absurd is pretending to care about women's bball because your school is good at it. That makes utterly no sense to me. And if you actually do care about it BECAUSE your school is good at it, that's even worse.
I don't get the animosity(maybe the wrong term) towards it. It is more about the atmosphere than anything. Soccer is freaking boring as hell to watch, but you drop me over in a stadium in England or Germany, and I know I would have a good time. A UT sporting event with 20,000 people in the arena is enjoyable. UT v. USC, no thanks. But UT v. UConn with 20,000 of my fellow Vol fans, I have defintely enjoyed.

it's called school pride...that's all i can say. it's like baseball for me. i could care less. and generally speaking, i don't keep up with it, don't know the records, rankings, players etc....... except on the occaisons that the vols are really good and make it to the post season......i tune in.
and my reson why.......because my school is good at it, and that's enough for me.
so does that make me pathetic?
.
On the second point... Pretty much, yes. But that is just my opinion. I still like you for all of your other quirks and the things that just make you, well, you.
How would one be able to discern the difference between the players and the Arkansas mascot?
it's a very narrow and shallow view to judge someone because they simply take pride in whatever sport their university does well. and that my friend, says more about what's pathetic here.
So people don't attend UF events because they happen to be good at the particular event?
apparently not. they all go because it's just a dandy old time. who cares if they are good or not? apparenlty they'll just show up if they open the doors, because the "atmosphere is good".So people don't attend UF events because they happen to be good at the particular event?
