I just was interested in everyones feedback. sense there are oviouse challenges in keeping this country together with our cultural and political differences in this country in the age of information in the 21st century.

would anyone be for trying for a southern confederacy again?

would you take someone seriously if a major political figure rallied people to a southern cause?

i was just wondering what people thought about somthing like this..

try and take it seriously bc im writing a paper on this and i really would like to hear what people think about this.. thanks!

I can't think of many problems that a southern country would address. If anything, our cultural differences are much more driven by urban vs. rural than south vs. north.

TennTradition hits the nail on the head. A lot of Tennesseans, especially many in the Eastern time zone, don't even accept Memphis as a city in the state of Tennessee.

Yes I would be all for a southern/northern/whatever country if it meant more freedom.

Can we make Mexicans slaves?

WTF???? I've lived in the south all of my life and I love it but if the south became it's own nation, my ass is going to California!! It won't be safe for a brotha around here!!

More freedom? I can think of a very few restrictions that are debatable including drugs and gay rights, but other than some progressive social issues, how are we oppressed?

I would be concerned that it would end up being a Theocracy run by Baptists.

If it was a return to Constitutional rule and the intent of the founders as well as strict strict strict controls on the "Federal" aspect of the Southern country, then yes.

a Southern country would be a welfare state of epic proportions. I love the South but would move away

not to mention the religious aspect that would overtake everything

The government has restrictions on a lot of things that people notice less and less...because they've grown accustomed to it.

can anyone point out any benefits that a Southern country would provide? Maybe the OP can help since it's his homework

I have often wondered if Red States wouldn't band together and form a new country if we came to the point of a literal financial and governmental collapse.

I do not think the old Confederate states have the resources to be a "great" nation without the midwest and Rocky Mtn west.

OTOH, a separation like this might be short lived. Liberals won't do well without the crutch of OPM provided by conservatives.
