'12 IN DT Tyrone Pearson

Sab didn't post anything inaccurate. The kid wanted to be a Vol. Unfortunately, he couldn't make the academic requirements. I think that it is ridiculous to run off quality posters here b/c they are afraid to post what they hear b/c they don't want to hear people *****. I'm sorry but I'll say it. Not cool.

+1

Has it actually been proven that the kid has grade issues or is that just what everyone is screaming as he didnt pick a big time BCS school? I recall CDD saying that they would be VERY careful in their handing out offers. I recall him saying that recruits would have to visit/camp here to earn that offer. Are we now seeing that CDD and staff are handing out offers to kids who have no chance of qualifying? People are making it sound as though the kid has a 1.3GPA and scored a 4 on his ACT. He has not even started his senior year of high school. If he is so far from qualifying for an SEC school....why was he given an offer by our coaching staff who claims you must earn that offer? Something just does not add up.

Facepalm.

How many times does this have to be explained to you?

All Vol was inaccurate. Clearly he is not a Vol. If you get ran off a message board, it's a you problem not a me problem.

Traditionally, no one knew what the kids status or GPA would be. Now, you can't hide any info. The age of technology and instant info via the web, has created a stream of info about us all. Kids who transfer schools repeatedly and have grade issues/academic problems are exposed quickly. Not to mention any staff worth their salt goes around and talks to coaches and counselors at the schools to see what is up. Plus, I have seen in my experiences in life, if you ask someone a question about their personal situation or problems, and you shut up and let them answer, you would be amazed what they are willing to put out there and tell you.

Clearly trying to reason with you is like talking to a stump. HE WANTED TO BE A VOL. Period, point blank, that is all. Sab brought the info to keep us in the loop and then some more things came out about the kid and his situation and things changed. Things are fluid man, come on.

Well it was only 2 weeks ago this kid was a VOL lock, now he can't read and write and we passed on him. I guess I am looking for some factual information as to what happened.

Claiming "We passed, bad grades" while easy...does not add up to what CDD said their recruiting methods consisted of.

So my expecting our coaching staff to know about these grade issues is not off base. If the kid was so far from qualifying he should not have been given an offer at all. If I recall....he was not offered that long ago.

I can see it now... Dooley to each kid he offers, "I know you are a good player, but I am going to have to require full academic transcripts ASAP before I offer you." You try that approach in recruiting and see where the hell that gets you in comparison to other schools.

A lot of scholarship offers go out based solely upon film study and camp performances. After researching the kid's background, a scholarship can become non-commital. Things move so fast in recruiting and coaches need to be able to react quick to what talent they can find.

I know recruiting is a busy time and all but I would think if your having a camp in which kids are attending to try and win a scholarship offer...CDD would have someone on staff who would pull these kids grades/scores and have some concept of where they stand before camp concludes and offers go out. Should our staffs time not be spent on kids who can actually attend class at UT? What sense does it make to allow a kid to camp, show him around, allow him to make an OV, then realize..."Oh crap...Pablo can't count to 10". Then pull his offer as you have wasted who knows how much time.

They don't know for sure who is and isn't going to be there. Hell, look at Arnett's story. They decided to come down two years ago for camp and drove all night to get here. They jump out the van and get to work at the camp and he blows everyone away and earns an offer but two hours earlier do you think UT knows who he is? Maybe, but I seriously doubt it... Most campers are here to learn or impress and they don't come packing personal info and their grades. Once again, I think the best phrase to capture the recruiting game is that things are fluid.

I asked that with the thinking that all college coaches have very quick access to the internet/high school coaches and are able to check on a kids academic standing. I would think if a kid jumps out to them at camp and they have never heard of him..the 1st question the coaches should be asking each other is how is this kids grades? (Yes I know at Auburn it works differently..."How much we got left Troop"?)

We got to get 2 of following: obrien, day, pipkins. Then we take borne and I'm pretty sure we'll get a jucoPosted via VolNation Mobile

....and if we do, I'm hoping for Big Dan McCullers. That guy will be instant beast (just add water).

Let's keep the discussion on Pearson please.

The staff has been unsuccessful in getting the commitments Pearson, Day, Nero, James, Borne, Taylor, Shanks, Lake, Ball, Mann, Gross, that we have missed on so far.

Valentine, Kirven, McCarthy, Sh1ttu, Jones, Pipkin, O'Brien, Ekakitie, L.Williams, John Jones, Andry, McCullers.

It looks like the staff is putting all their eggs in the Pipkin/O'Brien basket. I haven't heard much on the others. Neb leads for Valentine. J. Jones has interest and will visit. We know about Pip/OB, Kirven will visit, McCullers I think is a back up since we have Jacobs now.
It will probably be a combo of Pipkin, O'Brien, J.Jones, Kirven, Jacobs, with McCullers in there also.

My question to the board would be: If McCarthy has interest in UT, why hasn't the staff offered one of the best DT's in the class. A true 5* for the gazers?

Rivals lists an offer and Jmoore said the staff offered back in April.

Also, quotes from him say UT is one of the schools recruiting him the hardest and the coaches have stopped by his school as well. Doesn't sound like the staff isn't trying to me.

Only real shot of that group I see is O'Brien. They might be able to pull Kirven but IMO he ends up at VT.

I could see them taking McCullers but only if they whiff on the rest and he waits that long.

If the staff wanted Borne he would be a vol

The info you're referring to is about 6 months old. Rivals says he has a UT offer SCOUT says he doesn't. He says he holds a UT offer. He may go to UF for a visit, but I doubt UT. He hasn't mentioned UT in a long time. I wonder if he has gotten a written offer yet? If not I doubt that the staff is really after him. Q. Williams has got his and he's a UF commit. I want the staff to step it up on him, because Pip and O'Brien aren't for sure Vols.

If the staff wanted Borne he would be a vol

All I was stating was who UT was recruiting and who signed elsewhere, and who's available now. That's about it. But, to address your statement, since UT was his first offer, the staff must have wanted him to be a Vol sometime or another. Just saying.
