Prentiss Waggner

The coaches were trying to get him on the field at the safety position before Janzen came back. Clearly they value his talents, and want him on the field as much as possible.

If Couch isnt starting at DT then we are in trouble. I think and hope he comes in and playes well and locks DT down. Would be majorly disappointed if he didnt come in and win a starting job. I definately think Moore is C1 and either Teague or Lanier at C2. Hoping its Lanier with Teague,Gordon and Wagg being in the 2 deep. and posibly Wagg being 2 deep at safety behind Janzen and Brewer. Also cant for get Coleman who had a great Spring and impressed!. should be much approved in the secondary.Alot of young, potentially really good talent.

Or there werent very many other options, until the new guys got here. Wagg scares me to death when he is trying to cover someone, esp if it was the teams best WR. Dont see him in that position this year. Rather see him at backup safety.

I'm seeing alot of people putting a lot of hope on these juco db's. I get they have talent but so do some of the db's we already have.

I agree with this with the exception of Art Evans. I understand that Moore may be really good, but let's see what he does on the field against quality competition before giving him the start.

I have no idea who will start, but at the end of last year the coaches gave Jackson and Waggner the freedom to swing between safety and corner based on what they saw on the field. I wouldn't be surprised to see Waggs at the second corner spot a lot because he gives them scheme versatility.

Also, IIRC, Art Evans is back, and I'm sure he will factor into the rotation at CB despite all the hate he gets on VN.

Bottom line is Waggner, Poole, Thomas, and Evans were part of classes the "experts" on here hated on, so they must be "terrible" according to the kiddiexperts. By contrast, recruits they celebrated, like Teague, Lanier, Neal, J. James must all be "awesome."

Truth is Evans, even in his struggles, was our best cover corner last year, Waggner was far better than Teague, Thomas was good while James struggled a lot in his freshman year (a lead-leaguer in giving up sacks, who was owned by North Carolina's defensive linemen most of the game), and Poole was far better than Neal. But that doesn't conform with their pre-ordained conclusions, so they pretend otherwise.

In fairness, James is massively talented and was a true freshman. Teague might as well have been a freshman since he was playing CB in the SEC for the first time. Waggs, Evans, Thomas, and Poole had all been around for 2-3 years.

Waggner will play at Nickel CB but won't be one of the starting CB. Hopefully he will never have to play Safety again. By reports, Lanier showed up out of shape, but has looked good since. Couch hasn't lived up to the billing yet, but hopefully he should start to. It sounds stupid, but he has to really get at it if he wants to start the first game.

Waggner is extremely slow, isn't physical and is terrible at tackling. He has great ball skills but his impression of a girl while trying to tackle Jefferson still pisses me off.

Of course James should struggle as a freshmen. 99% of all freshmen who start on an offensive line struggle.

I thought the guy with the most STARS always started.

Actually, Wilks is in the two deep as of now. I don't think Anderson will play safety coaches seemed to be impressed with him at corner. If the reports of Lanier looking dominant are true, our three best corners (in no order) are Moore, Teague, and Lanier. I will find it hard to believe that Teague and Moore/Lanier aren't the starters to start off the season. I cannot overstate how much the coaches really like Teague as a corner.[/QUOTE]

Still no response where this "info" is coming from.

I am on record as saying that of all the guys who did not play CB well last year, Teague has the most upside given that he was going through a position switch.

You did not understand the point about Daniel Hood, so let me make it simple for you...Although the coaches RAVED about Daniel Hood at DT, he was playing there during the spring because Mo Couch was not on campus.

The coaches similarly liked Teague, who was playing without B Moore or I Lanier here. They are the starting CBs.

I'm pretty sure I understood your point as Couch wasn't here, but the coaches still said Hood needed work but had good potential and made great strides. The coaches feel on Teague isn't that he needs a lot of work, it's that he is going to be one of our best DBs. You haven't seen any of these kids play from JUCO (I bet you probably will claim you have), and you are just going off hype to this point. I think all of the JUCOs will be big here, but so to did I Kenny O'Neal. And no one cares if you are not record; you aren't important.

Probably more due to keeping Rod Wilks from playing with first teamers.

I was hyped when we signed him..... forgot his time, but he had the fastest 40 of any recruit in the nation listed on Rivals.
I'm fairly certain that FIJIVol knew he was going to be a bust when he signed.

I check out vn quite often and post very little. But I have had enough of this petty bickering.

All of you - go put your nose in the corner for time out!!! Or go pick me a switch off the tree! Now, Hush!

Brewer made some EBerry-like hits in the Music City Bowl.

He knows what it takes to get $60,000,000.

PW is actually an average cb. He was just in the right place at right times last year

Isn't being in right place at right time part of playing cb. When he moved to corner he was a playmaker. PERIOD!

Just a point I'd like to make: When JJ makes it to the NFL, is it safe to assume will look back on the 2010 season and say to this board, "Well we had a top 10 class that year and four NFL draft picks..." I just didn't know you were in the business of scouting college kids, before their careers were over.

Having said that, I agree....Except for Wag being far better than Teague. Teague still has plenty of room to grow. He looked better as the season went on. I assume Waggner will start early on, but things may change.

But this happens every year. We'll get a slew of people saying BB will start over Hardesty, Da'Rick will be amazing his freshman year, start Picnic over Crompton, Crompton should take Ainge's spot, etc. And when the same faces come in, we continue to put our faith in the coaches, and everyone forgets all that happened. No big deal.

Your last paragraph is spot on.
