I know this a little nerving for some, but I have had enough with the whole Volunqueers thing. Talk about being unsportsman like. If you can't resort to smack talking without calling someone a queer, someone I might add that got that name for fighting for this country as the orignal Tenn. Volunteers did then shut up.I have been seeing this redneck crap too much latley on the web and it is getting really, really old

I feel like I just walked in on a fight already in progress. I just went back through the entire thread and have no idea what you are talking about...maybe I just missed something

Sorry I had just seen a UGA fan on Myspace do this and this seemed like the appropriate forum to post this just venting some frustation

Anyone from Georgia calling anyone in the South a redneck is hilarious to me. Have Georgia fans even seen Athens on gameday?

Gotcha !! Where on myspace are you seeing this stuff. I'm pretty illiterate about that site, but if there's smack being posted I just might have to familiarize myself.

I agree, UGA is a fine academic institution. I heard the same ad from Arrow but also heard there other ads on their website. I googled and found their website and found some other radio ads that are hilarious! You gotta listen to the Florida and the Auburn ads. Sounds like they are trying to poke fun at all non-Georgia teams. I heard a rumor that their owner is a Vol grad - if so, he is one happy man this week!!!

Speak for yourself, friend. I hate georgia more then any other team. I was there for the loss in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. All extremely painful for different reasons. The road losses taught me just how absolutely rude uga fans are (ive been to road games at bama, auburn, kentucky, along with both peach bowls and the 01 and 03 sec cg, so I have some kind of sample). Plus I live in the state of Georgia so I have to hear all the crap about them. You'd be amazed how much uga crap has appeared over the last couple years.

As for whether this game is a rivalry, I'll share a story. On one of my trips to uga, I went out with some friends to downtown Athens, Im fairly sure the year was 2003. Its an awesome bar scene. Anyways, there used to be this bar called "Gator Haters". A whole bar named after how much they hate florida. I thought to myself...if I went to Gainsville, could I find a bar called "Bulldog Haters"? Probably not. Its a rivalry for one team when youve won 13 out of 14 (or whatever it was at the time).

In the '90s, uga wasnt a rivalry. You beat someone 9 in a row, who cares. But when we lost 5 out of 6...we started hating them and calling it a rivalry. But from the uga friends I talk to, they go into every year wanting to beat auburn and florida...the teams that tend to beat them more often then not. Tennessee, unfortunately, is an afterthought (much like their other supposed rival, Georgia Tech).

Its gonna take some parity, I believe, before its a full blown rivalry. I think we might get it with Cut back, Ainge playing like he is, and Crompton and our stable of rb's waiting in the wings.

I know this is a late reply to this thread but I live in GA and I couldn't agree with you more. I tell you the fans here are the worst and they hate UT. It seems like each team is getting better at beating the other on their home field. I had a friend that went to the game in Athens a couple of years ago and UGA fans were always barking in his face before the game while he was with his family. Bunch of jacka$$es! I love to watch them lose because they think they are going to win a National Championship every year. I have a beat UGA party every weekend they play. I had a GA fan tell me they should be 12-0 right now!!!!! LOL

I've never had a bad experience in Athens on a gameday, and I've been to may games there since 1990. If you go on the road as a visiting fan and act like a fool then you will probably be treated as one. If you act like a respectful guest then you will, for the most part, be treated as one. I think we all know the basics:

(1) don't gloat if you win and don't pout if you lose; (2) don't make boastful pre-game predictions since you'll only piss people off if you are correct or bring ridicule on yourself if you are wrong; and
(3) realize that you are not at home and there are not 100,000 people who "got your back".

I've never had a bad experience in Athens either. And there aren't too many places where those guidelines won't ensure a pleasant visit.

Gainesville is definitely one exception to that rule. I've been there 5 times and shoved or had things thrown at me each time while walking down streets minding my own business.

Yes and no. There is always some ribbing (Ive had an old man, at least 60s, ask me if I want my money back after Auburn beat us in '03). Ive seen examples of people act like morons on the road and almost get killed...I had a friend who was running his mouth in tuscaloosa, a bammer came up to me and said "get him out of here, he's about the get jumped". And I wasnt upset...my friend was being an idiot.

But on my trips to uga, Ive never acted like a moron because Ive ALWAYS been surrounded by uga fans. I still have lots of uga friends from growing up here. The road games Ive been to I was literally the only orange shirt at a uga tailgate. Im not that naive.

In their defense, the uga fans that have been awful to me were college kids. They werent just rude to me, though...they also got literally in the face of my parents and my girlfriend at the time. This happened in '02. My parents, big UT fans, didnt want to back in '04 because of this, even though we live just a hour away. In '00 I had something thrown at me while walking back to meet my friends. I know everyone's experiences are different, thus different opinions...but these are mine, thus why I hate them.

I didnt say anything negative about Athens though. Its probably my favorite college town and the most fun Ive had on the road when im NOT wearing orange.

I just don't get it. When I was in college I'd often tailgate at the KA and Chi Phi houses right on Lumpkin wearing orange and surrounded by drunken college-aged UGA fans and never had a problem. I'm not saying I don't believe it happens from time to time.

Maybe some people are just magnets for aggression. I myself have found that I am often the target of people looking for a handout. I can be walking to lunch with a half dozen other people and when we pass a panhandler I'm the one who gets singled out. Other people have explained to me over the years that I just have a "yes face". It used to irritate me but I've learned to live with it and enjoy it. I suppose it's equally likely that there are people in the world who have "kick my butt faces" or "insult me faces". Who knows?

Yeah it cracks me up too. They call us hillbillies...what the hell does that make them?

Plain ol' rednecks without the benefit of mountain vistas like this...

...lousy flatlanders.

There are good and bad. I went with my wife and all her UGA buddies. One Beta got in my face and was trying to get the whole section to boo me. One of my wife's friends, a Cuban girl, got all "Calle Oche" on his a$$. Shouted him down as a "disgrace to every fan of the University of Georgia" and made him apologize because I was being pretty cool, despite my orange pants.

For that, and for my marriage, I will always respect UGA fans. We can all get a little uppity with a successful program.

PS- on the next play Wardlow blocked the punt about ten yards in front of us. PERFECT timing.

Who would win in a pitt fight to the death? Smokey or Uga.
Depends on the size of the pit. If Smokey had some running room then I think Uga would exhaust herself (I'm pretty sure the current UGA is a girl) and then Smokey might get in some good chomps.

You know what would help this rivalry get a little bigger? A trophy of some kind ... preferably with some sort of connection each school ...... possibly a hobnailed boot trophy.

Just an idea.
