GOP further alienates it's base

Rove and Mush stick with family over anything else. Mel is very close to both and trust is rewarded. Plus both are still insistent that Hispanics are the future. Since they will soon become the largest minority in this nation, one can easily see why they move this route.

I agree Cspin. I actually think it was a pretty good move.

BTW - I thought hispanics were already the largest minority.

the RNC has a much better chance at capturing the Hispanic vote than the African-American vote, therefore, this move makes sense.

The cut-off the flow, send 'em all home and no guest worker program version.

I consider myself conservative and I don't have these views.

I do want the border secured.
Unrealisitc to "send em all home"
Feel no need for a guest worker program.

Not up for this discussion tonight or in this thread but I would like to see things more secure. I really don't have a problem with some path towards citizenship for those here but it definitely needs to be a back of the line approach. I think we probably need a guest worker program but one that is strictly controlled.

Since they won't be able to read the papers, however, just have them grade it on how well the were formatted.

Perfect margins = A+

The whole concept of a wall is completely rediculous. Put up a wall on the Mexican border and you still have Chinese coming in through ports on both coasts, boats and rafts coming in through Miami, Canada is still wide open. Those who advocate a wall need to just push for walling up the entire nation into Fortress America or the whole effort is just in vain.

CSpin, please refrain from mentioning the creation of a Fortess Americana. Some will jump on that as a good idea...

Not debating your wall comments, but the end of the post, you are implying that if an issue cannot be resolved 100% then it is better not to do anything at all?

rather than a physical wall, there should be a social wall. no automatic citizenship for babies born to illegals, no welfare subsidies paid to illegals, no driver's license without green card, no green card without fingerprints, no access to the public school system for children of illegals. Aggressive persecution and prosecution of MS13 gang activity. Monitor all La Raza activity through Homeland Security.

in other words, make things hard on them. ever seen what is done to illegal aliens in Mexico? they're not coddled by the system, quite the opposite.

When these supporters of this 700 mile wall are saying it stops the problem and also stops terrorists, I say my comment applies. Honestly what does a 700 mile wall do? Either fund complete and total security or stop lying about what is involved. Do you think if you invested in a deadbolt lock for your front door that criminals wouldn't think twice about other methods to enter?

This requires changing the Constitution. Good luck with that process.

I haven't looked at this in a while but isn't this up to interpretation? I thought the wording left some room for interpretation. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

I agree with you, the 700 mile fence would not solve the issue. It is more window dressing than anything.

Was just questionnig the idea that doing "something" was a bad idea if it did not solve everything. There has to be a beginning, and whatever that is, will most likely not be the entire solution.

You're right a deadbolt would lead to other alternatives for the criminals, but that does not mean you don't buy the deadbolt. It would be part of your solution, not the entire plan.

if we'd enforce the laws we already have and stop prosecuting border control agents who do their duty a physical wall wouldn't be neccessary. Also, if we put military troops on the border, they should be armed and given powers of arrest. Using the NG as window dressing was both absurd and dangerous.

well since conservatives have pushed for strict constructionists, I'd say it would take a huge change to the Constitution and that it would be a loose interpretation to give some of these Congressmen what they are calling for.
