Sidewalk alumni necks

the dad would definitely earn some degree of fandom for his efforts but the son with the degree would be of a higher rank....do i need to make a chart? i think i will.

Might need the chart. Now if a guy has had his seats so long that he is grandfathered into those, where does that fit in. That surely must help.

That California liberal sunshine is getting to you. You need to pick a side. Mediators always end-up getting flamed.

out of curiosity how do you obtain a diploma without a degree? other than the honorary diplomas given to guests of the university?

Also, have we defined a former alumni? can you rescind your alumni status?

While I do believe everything I posted so far, it should be apparent by now that I am just trying to get some humorous responses. I will give all you a high five on game day...even if i do have to wash my hands afterwards.

You're even less funny than the overused rod wilks jokes on here.

Diplomas are technically low credit certificates. Work towards a diploma cannot count towards an Associate's (2 year) or Bachelor's (4 year) Degree.

Diploma can also be a stand in word for Degree, but on a semantic level... they're different.

I make a motion to remove you a the official spokesperson for all non-graduate UT fans

:)

The fandom chart is growing rapidly.

So how does attending UT and obtaining a diploma/degree NOT factor into the validity or level of fandom? I need this answered to finish my chart

im a current student and i love UT because my dad did. He went to MTSU but still loved the Vols. There is nothing wrong with being a fan at a different school. Some people dont have the means to attend UT or UT doesnt offer their major etc.

Exactly. Many young persons go to a school based on their educational needs - not their love for an athletic program. If I had had the talent to play SEC football and thought I would have had a shot at advancing to the professional level, I would have graduated from UT with no question. At 18 I may have thought I knew more than I really knew; but at least I was smart enough to choose a school for educational purposes which would help prepare me for the real world rather than go to my favorite athletic school. It did not change the color of my blood. I bled orange while in school and still do to this day.

All in favor of changing the name of the football team to "The University of Tennessee Alumnus Volunteers"?

So when you are an actual alumni of UT and have a diploma you will have a vested interest in the success of the university. Until then you are on a lower tier of fandom than diploma holders.

And to answer an earlier question a diploma in and of itself does not make a fan.

So, according to your criteria, Eric Berry is on a lower tier of fandom than you?

I got a degree from the school of hard knocks does that count?

Myself and other elitest will be check diplomas at the gates this season. fake diplomas are welcome.

Presumably, with you being a GRAD and such, you meant elitist and all your incorrect use of the plural form of alumnus was purely inadvertent, because we all know you're smarter than that.

If you're calling this POV you have about this elitism, you might be the saddest guy on the site.

You need to remove that large boulder from your shoulders. Real fans don't need a UT diploma but real fans sans-diploma, shouldn't act like a buffoon when they post, either.

I don't see how anyone could spend more than a half-hour talking with the good folks of Tennessee and still not realize that the Vols are the state's team.

That sentiment predates the Titans, by several decades.

Very true

What I believe many fellow graduates ares trying to say is that while there’s no doubt there are many very big Vol fans here, there is a difference between those that are fans and those that are fans that actually went to the school. Have you ever stayed up all night pomping a float for a homecoming parade? Have you ever been to a 7:50am practice? Have you ever camped out in front of the student center with activity cards in hand for tickets to a ball game? Do you understand the significance in the Baptist Student Union winning a competition over Sigma Chi or Pi Kappa Alpha? Have you ever practiced for 7-8 hours in a week only to receive 1 hour of credit? These are the “bleeding orange” fans. The ones that have poured their time and sweat to the school while working for a degree.

Without the sidewalk alumni UT would never have achieved the success and the notoriety we have. You look at schools like Vandy and Miss State who put out just as many alumni yet can barely fill a 42,000 seat stadium on fall Saturdays. It takes both non and current alumni to do it as well as students. In the end if the absolute worse case happened, the side walk alumni can discard all their Vol paraphernalia. A graduate will always have the degree to put on his resume. That sheepskin has many gallons of orange blood on it. Remember you can have the school and not have the football team. You cannot have the football team without the school.

I agree with the basis of your point-of-view. I just think you're going about it in the wrong way. You're perpetuating a stereotype that UT fans have to fight everyday, nationwide.

the Baptist Student Union could never accomplish such a feat unless it involved being up on a Sunday morning

The coefficient of fandom should be, obviously:

a
x2/b * c

a = age
x = degree attained
(2 for MS 3 for PhD)
b = beer consumption at gametime
c = income

Absolutely true.
