Thought I would weigh in on the argument going on here. I am a huge Pearl fan, but his weaknesses pointed out by a few posters on here are very real.

- Not the best half court coach. U.T. has improved in the half court defense but still struggles mightily on offense.

- Pearl is a great recruiter, but a lot of our best talent gets kicked off the team. This shows lack of discipline.

- The development of players is lacking. Ramar Smith regressed from his freshman year to his sophomore year. Tyler Smith got worse every year. Hopson has not developed, and neither has Prince or Williams etc...

- It is great we have gotten to the tournament every year under Bruce, but have had some disappointing runs in said tournament.

I would not trade Bruce for any coach, but to point out his weaknesses does not make anyone negative or any less of a fan. One more thing, the posters who were mentioned as being negative about Pearl and not contributing to volnation.com actually contribute a great deal to this site and I am thankful for their contributions. Just by 2 cents.

Well said and please post more.

They obviously pick the players that they want to recruit. Too bad CBP could not outrecruit Cal. Why is that?
3 reasons he couldn't out recruit Cal.

1) Kentucky is Kentucky. Thats like Kentucky outrecruiting us in football.
2) Nike. AAU coaches force them to Nike schools so they can keep their sponsorships.
3) Cal is just that good of a recruiter. Plus, we know he has a couple of other ways of getting players to his schools. Also, Kentucky didn't pay to recruit those players for Cal... Memphis did.

I always wonder. Why doesnt UT try to end our deal with Adidas and make one with Nike? Are there some really negative reprocussions to that or something?

Let me correct myself... it does appear there was basketball at UT before Pearl.

Below is a list of Tennessee’s all-time McDonald’s All-America signees:

1985 Doug Roth

1989 Allan Houston

1996 Charles Hathaway

1997 Tony Harris

1998 Vincent Yarbrough

2008 Scotty Hopson

2010 Tobias Harris

Charles Hathaway FTW. I had entirely forgotten that, at some point in his life, people thought he could play basketball.

I hate to break this to everyone...but Pearl is not gonna get fired. At least not anytime soon. So appreciate what he is doing and don't focus on what he is struggling with.

Charles was a potentially solid player until he got a blood clot in his arm. I still remember him dropping 24 on Arkansas his freshman year.

Bruce Pearl is a fine coach and the best I have seen at UT(mens). I have followed this program for over fifty years and remember some teams that I have wondered if they were recruited to play hockey. Pearl has to have time to build a dynasty. Look at coach K at Duke. I think coach Pearl is building that dynasty as we speak. We were never on the list of so many fine ballplayers as we are now. Pat didn't win thirty games a year when she first got here. Does anyone want to quote about how she does'nt know what she's doing? Sit back and enjoy the ride. Coach Pearl will take us to the promised land of the final four and the national championship.

I thought it was his knee?

Either way, that really hurt him. If he's been healthy he'd been great.

His dance down the lance against South Carolina in the 2000 SEC Tournament is still one of my favorite no-calls of all time.

Can't one of the mods just start an anti-Pearl thread with a sticky? That way when anyone wants to pile on after someone starts a positive Pearl thread, they'll have a place to go.

Sadly there needs to be one for both sides so we stop getting countless threads on each every day

That or like a sub forum to let them talk about it...though that might be a bit too much

Why would Jay Wright ever come here? Who realistically would we get to replace Bruce? This is the most mindless and ongoing conversation I have ever heard.

I can take it. :)

I'm pro Pearl and not afraid to admit it.
