ever smoke weed in college? I dont approve of the weed and especially the guns but lady's and gent's why not throw say 80% of students nation wide in jail and throw all of them out of school. These kids happen to play b-ball for tenn, but THEY are still college kids and just because they play b-ball dont make them immune to what the vast majority of col. kids are doing. I dont recall anyone saying these boys shot someone and stole the weed in a stolen car. This is a serious offense but my goodness, some of u guys act like these kids should be put on an alter and burned alive.

Letting the team and university down is the big part IMO. Not to mention the fact that the entire situation shows immense stupidity and doesn't reflect well on Tennessee.

If I was CP and MH my #1 concern would be making sure these guys don't put themselves in a position to be shot! So far the school has been lucky. These guys aren't kids and this isin't the first time they "tried weed". Quit kiddin yourselves. If they are going to act "like kids", then treat them that way.

agree warrior. They should and im sure will be punished. It makes me sick that this happened but im sure alot of us did things just as stupid and in some cases much worse but my point is they are still college kids " high profile " but still kids. Im hoping they take this nightmare and make it into something possitive. This is a first time, as far as i know for these boys to be in trouble, its not the end of the world for them, or vol basketball.

I agree with the original OP but they should be a little more aware of things that can happen especially after what happened with Nuke and the "Gang"...I agree that college kids are going to do dumb stuff especially if girls are around and your right just about half of america has smoked weed they just should not have been driving around with guns and weed and open containers...Someone in the car should have thought....Hmm If we get pulled over this would be bad...

Tyler Smith is surprising to me especially after how hard he was working to get to the NBA...I like how Bruce has handled the situation so far we will see what happens. But if all they got was a misdemeanor charge then a couple game suspension would be good.

Here is to hoping this year is a little less stressful...:toast:

The weed and the open container are not too bad in my opinion as long as the driver was not under the influence of either. The guns are a major issue though. Who with half a brain thinks it is alright to drive around with this stuff in their car packing some heat. Also, what is the percentage chance of them getting pulled over by just being profiled. Right or wrong, it was four black guys in a car cruising around. All this would have been easily avoided by just using their heads.

I dont understand why these guys need a gun. Who would mess with 4 guys that dwarf the avg man. Just silly, i dont get it.

I say kick all 4 of the THUGS off the Team and out of school..... They are nothing but a bunch of Dope smoking- Pot Head- Gun carrying-Drunks.....nothing but THUGS.....Kick all 4 of their Dope smoking @sses out!

Seriously? Do you honestly think that 80% of American students smoke dope? Do you even think that 80% have at one time tried weed? It sounds to me like you've been hitting the hash a little too hard to think along those lines. I would like to know where you get your figures from.

I am one who didn't smoke weed in college and I don't think 80% of the kids smoke weed either. This is another example of where society has become apathetic to our problems like drug use. Why do we accommodate such idiotic behavior? We are afraid to hurt these players feelings or self-esteem. Maybe we need to hurt their feelings a little and lower their self-esteem a little.

"To whom much is given, much is expected". If you make the commitment to a program, scholarship or not, then you have committed to do what is best for the team.

Regardless of our personal views, weed is illegal. Guns with altered serial #'s are illegal. You know this before making your commitment.

If you don't care to abide by the rules set forth for your participation, then don't participate. I was offered several football scholarships coming out of HS. I decided that I didn't want to abide by the rules so I declined. One of the bigger mistakes in my life? Damn right it was. But I was free to do whatever I wanted without being bothered and without effecting my teammates.

i dont care if they smoke weed/drink alcohol or not. dont drive around and do where you can put yourself in position to hurt yourself/others/team/university.
as far as the gun situation, it is still their right to own a gun via the second amendment. however, they still must follow the legal procedures required to own a gun. they obviously didnt follow those and deserve to be punished. i am not aware if they live on campus wither or not, but if they do they could not have that firearm in their possession on campus.
i wouldnt go so far as to call them thugs because i do not know them personally. but what they are being charged with is very thuggish.

I won't go into the 2nd amendment here. But from experience it is illegal to possess a firearm with altered serial numbers. It is also illegal to alter serial numbers. In TN it is a 5 year mandantory sentence to do either.
