Kiffin Blown Away By Hatred For Crompton.

Crompton is a 5th year senior. He has proven two things:

He practices very well

He doesn't have a head for gameday. He just can't do it. His INTs were not tipped passes, they were into triple coverage with no orange jerseys in sight. Horrible, horrible passes. If he can't keep his head on straight against UCLA, forget the rest of the season. It's fine if we have a freshman and we're sticking with him to develop him, but this guy is not going to improve. PERIOD.

Kiffin can either stick with him and loose a ton of games, or he can try something else. This is a no brainer. We won't win with #8 taking the snaps.

No one. But quite obviously some people aren't satisfied unless you are taking personal shots at Crompton or advocating that he be drawn and quartered.

Yeah you're right. Some take this way too seriously. Its just a game after all.

Well stated, respectfully stated opinion.

Why do people feel compelled to go from stating objective facts to definitive conjectures about what will and won't happen?

Do I think it is likely that JC will become a great QB? Honestly, no. Do I think UT will have a good record with him at QB this year? No.

Can I state either of those as foregone conclusions? NO... Neither can you.

Suggestion: Sit back. Keep your mind open and positive. AND let CLK do the job he was hired to do... then criticize him if it doesn't work.

Look, four Offensive coordinators in 5 years. Four completely different coaches. Four completely different offensive schemes. We put Nick Stephens in there last year and got the same result. It cannot be all on Crompton. The offense has had the same instability. It's an entire program's deal and yes, it all falls on the qb because he has the ball in his hands, but he didn't screw anything up on that drive to the 1. He did everything just right and we still couldn't get it in. I'm with Kiffin. Just lay off the guy. I mean, he probably has a girlfriend, parents, cousins, a love for TN football like nobody else. I would take 10 Jonathon Cromptons over Jesse Scroggins any day. I'm sick and tired of this talk. Why aren't we bashing the receivers for getting hurt? Why aren't we bashing Kiffin for calling four straight off-tackles? We're not because it's not his turn. We have a program that is trying to get back on its feet. And it's not going to happen overnight whomever is at QB, coach or anything else. Let this guy live. Hell, let me live.

I thought that was what this thread was about. That some people would threaten the life of a 22 year old amature athlete over a ball game is not good.

The QB play Saturday against UCLA was bad. It had a lot to do with UT losing the game. To me, that doesn't mean that Crompton is a moron, an idiot, or a mental midget or need to die. Those are harsh words. And I can understand that they could be understood as spoken in the heat of the moment during the game. But the game was a few days ago.

He just didn't get the job done as QB. And he may never get it done. Just because he failed as a QB shouldn't be reason to attack him pesonally.

And that's my opinion.

I still hope Crompton finds a way to simply manage the game. After the troubles he's had at his career at TN I hope he comes out and proves us (yes, i said us) wrong that have had such a hard time watching Tn offensively for the past few years. Do I get caught up to the level that some go to....no, I have found a way to seperate the player from my wishes on him as a person. Life has tuaght me that as long as I have air in my lungs, a beautiful wife and daughter that everything, yes everything else is gravy.
JC, manage the game, complete enough passes to keep defenses honest, keep your head up, and realize that you play qb for the greatest college team in the land. Offensive line, protect your qb and make holes for the run game. Receivers-run good routes, catch the ball, and block when needed. Rb's hit those holes, make someone pay for trying to bring you down, and protect JC when you have to pass block.
To my beloved Vol defense....never let up and make them pay for every down they try and play. Whether it be sore bodies or wired jaws, make them remember that they played TN and that we will never let up.

To all my Vol familiy....here's to Saturday.

I have watched the game replay twice now. I can say that Crompton did show signs of improvement from last year and let's face it, the OL is not as strong as it has been in past years. UCLA actually has a very good defense installed by Dwayne Walker. Having that in mind, Crompton did make it easy for them. JC was a 5* QB coming out of high school because of his athleticism. He ran a very similar offense to the one he is running now but he still does not do little things like look off defenders. The UCLA defense was able to load the box to stop the run because they were not concerned about Crompton beating them. They were able to get pressure in obvious passing situations because their defense could blitz and play a zone behind it. Their safetys were able to watch his head and know exactly where the ball was going. You can't blame that on the OL and looking off defenders is something he should have learned as a freshmen. He is now a 5th year senior. (Inexcusable) I don't think anyone hates this kid but no one believes in him, not even his teammates. I did not see one player come up to him after throwing those picks and tell him to get his head up. I did not see him talking to his receivers or OL to discuss what was going on. Fans see that, his teammates see that, I just wish Kiffin saw that. He can not handle the pressure and is not a leader. His post game comments should have been something like Tebow's after the Ole Miss game. Maybe fans would support him if he made it clear he was working his but off but I don't see any passion in his play. That is all I want to see from him, not just a blank stare like a clueless kid.

Its the front story on volquest.com i dont have a subscription can anyone who does give a rundown of what it says? Appreciate it.

It is shameful the way some of these people show absolute hatred towards a 20yr old college student. Its a game (albeit: a very important one) to not like the way he is playing is one thing, but read his facebook wall and it will make you sick!! I left that game Saturday pissed at JC and blaming his play for that loss, but never would I hate a young man over a football game. I was raised around SEC football and have seen this type of venom over the years(mostly towards other teams and I'm all in on that one!!!!), but CLK was not and has not! Between the drunk idiots that call vol calls and fan hatred towards our own players we will be lucky to keep this staff more than two -three years. Something to remember as well, JC has had 4 different coordinators in 5 years two of them baffoons (Sanders /Clawson). Enough said, GO VOLS BEAT THE TURDS!!!!!!!

I'm sorry cd12 but you are just flat out wrong. UT NEEDS plays from the QB position. There is NO SEC school on their schedule save maybe Vandy that cannot load up the box and stop a running game... and especially one behind the current Vol OL.

Maybe CLK can fix his head. Maybe he will replace him at some point. But the shear fact of the matter is that UT doesn't have the horses up front to be a one dimensional team like Arkansas was a few years back.
Didn't see the UCLA qb making plays but he managed the offense to a win and played within himself. Kiff has tried to make it as easy as possible for him game planning wise. Yes we need a playmaker back there but there isn't one on the roster. So we play with what we got. JC showed flashes early in his career but that hasn't materialized. Only Crompton can fix his head. Yes I would love to have an all SEC qb but that wasn't my point. Its like having to put a singles hitter in the cleanup spot.

Hate is too strong a word. People want to see a competent player at the QB position for a change and get emotional.

Have you gone to the games? People are hating on this kid, and it isn't right. Some are down right vicious, and it's sad. This kid is in college, and trying as hard as he can. He's struggling, but booing a college kid doesn't help anything. All it does is say someone about the ones booing and dropping f-bombs at the guy. These complaints are also usually coming from people who have never stepped on a football field with a helmet on.

So i guess it's ok with you that Cory Anderson and Jayson Swain both said Crompton sucked and Gerald Jones basically saying the same thing in the locker room?

I will add that from my perspective that its what Crompton does and says after the mistakes that tick me off. More than the mistakes themselves.

Our Johnny wasn't born a bad quarterback, Clarice. Oh no, he was made one through years of systematic abuse. Our Johnny hates his own identity, you see. He always has, and he thinks that makes him a bad mustache guy. But his pathology is a thousand times more savage and more terrifying. He wants to be reborn, you see. Our Johnny wants to be reborn, Clarice. And he will be reborn!

Huh? Note to Kiffin: This is the SEC. Win or suffer the consequences.

Not trying to be the new guy ruffling feathers early but come on. Did you really expect the guy to come into the SEC with the talent we have now and win the SEC East?

I will not attack JC's character or him as a person, but as our QB he is just not the right man for the job. He very well may love the University of Tennessee and there is no doubt in my mind that he is probably giving his all for Tennessee but stats dont lie and watching him play and seeing some of the decisions he makes when he is under center proves the point that he for some reason just can't get the job done for us. I do on the other hand trust that CLK would take him out if he felt someone else could do a better job and lead our team more effectively but thus far he has opted to leave him in which tells me one thing-like it or not-Jonathon Crompton is the best quarterback in a Tennessee uniform at this point in time. The well is dry and we need to just accept that fact as difficult as it may be.

Would I like to see Stephens get another shot this year-Yes, I absolutely would. I don't see how it could get much worse than what we saw Saturday against UCLA and all last year when JC was in the game. I think that there are def advantages to letting Stephens go ahead and take over at the QB spot since he will be back next year and CLK has stated that it was a close race for the starting spot between the two...That is just my opinion tho, there is a reason CLK is the coach and like everyone on this board, we are not...

CLK is a great recruiter and I am confident he will get us a top tier QB that will lead us back to SEC and NATIONAL prominance! I just wish we had someone who was capable of leading us to the Promised land this year...or at least to a respectable season and bowl game. It is yet to be determined if JC or Nick Stephens will step up this year, but after last years spectacle it seems unlikely...

I am going to choose to support whoever CLK decides is best to play QB for us because NO MATTER HOW BAD THEY ARE-THEY ARE STILL OUR QB AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU OR I CAN DO TO CHANGE THAT! My tears may be running again after this season but even if that is the case my tears will be TENNESSEE ORANGE. I am done bashing JC and questioning why he is even out there and am going to turn my focus back to raising hell on our foes and letting them know that they better enjoy our rebuilding seasons and down years while they can because THE VOLS WILL BE BACK!!!! WOOOO GO BIG ORANGE!!!!

First of all, I'll say that I hope JC pulls it together and starts playing well as much as anyone.

That said, in the WKU game I had concerns about how much he had advanced. He had some good numbers, true, and made some passes that were right on the money, but I was concerned that there were still the passes that were tipped or batted at the line. I still think his biggest problem is making good split second decisions and not seeing the whole field.

Not trying to be the new guy ruffling feathers early but come on. Did you really expect the guy to come into the SEC with the talent we have now and win the SEC East?

No, but myself and everyone else expected him to beat UCLA.

I would like for someone to tell me another schools fans that have been as cruel to there QB in the history of college football. Honelstly and all you so called UT fans that think this is the price you pay to be a QB on the big stage, please tell me another school's fan base that has giving there QB death threats for throwing interceptions. Yeah I would like everyone that is hating on the 22 year old to realize that you are making our program look horrible in the nations eyes. NOT CROMPTON! YOU ALL ARE THE TALK OF THE MEDIA RIGHT NOW! agian NOT CROMPTON! I don't live in Knoxville and all I hear where I am is how our fans turn on there coach and players like rabid dogs and have no clue why any coach or player would ever want to come here. "Some" of you are pathetic!

Let the Bama or Ga qb put up those numbers and it would be the same. Cox caught hell after the Ok State.

I see a lot of similarities between Crompton and Jake Delhomme......like Delhomme, I think Crompton could succeed if he primarily leans on Quinton Hancock (his best receiver) much the same way that Delhomme relied on Steve Smith. That way, he can build confidence and then go up top to Moore or Rogers on the vertical route every once in a while.

Last saturday, it seemed like he and Hancock were the only two on the same page. He got into trouble throwing to Jones, Moore, and Stocker (when matched against the more speedy corners). If he thinks more about the matchups and relies on hancock I think he can enjoy moderate success.

I had some pretty strong views about Crompton after the game and still do, but things need to be brought back into perspective. Just read where the guy that fumbled in the Buffalo game had his yard vandalized. Its getting pretty ridiculous how fans react nowadays.

Like I said, I'm pointing the finger at myself, as well.

I see what you mean but it was the wide open guys he had a problem throwing to.
