Kiffin Blown Away By Hatred For Crompton.

I'm showing my age but I have one question for those of you that have been around awhile. Was Darrell Dickey the best QB on the roster in 1985/86 and the great sugar bowl conquest? The guy had minimal physical attributes, but had a head for the game unlike JC.

Sometimes injuries playa big part in determining who plays

We are a program that has moved from the caliber of Peyton Manning to Jonathan Crompton? Fans are supposed to be happy with this level of decline? I don't think so!!

The source of the decline is now working for CBS.

I wonder if Kiffin's starting to wonder how we'll treat him after a couple of tough seasons?

The issue is very basic: While crompton's lousy performance against ucla may have been a one-time thing for kiffin, it was a 10-time thing for Vol fans. We aren't keen on a QB who shrinks every time he plays a decent opponent and causes us to lose. Kiffin picked this guy to play QB, and now he's got to deal with the situation. We're supposed to accept the fact that Stephens isn't as good as Crompton when he showed last year that he was better--and when it would be almost /impossible/ to be worse? We'll see what happens Saturday. I hope Crompton plays well--I do--but if he lays another egg and we get poleaxed, Kiffin will have more 'splainin to do.

He obviously thought that as a 5th year senior he had a better head on his shoulders. Obviously he thought wrong.

I'd just like to know what these coaches see in Crompton in practice that doesn't show up on game day that they continue to make him a starter?

Does he have something on someone? Hamilton maybe?

And got out played by a red shirt freshman at home. Some sad stuff there. If that is our best then we are screwed from here on out. Cupcake season is over. Well other than Ohio.

Stephens should be playing, but I'm on a keyboard and not the practice field. So he probably knows more than I do

no so much no pocket presence as to he has 'lock on' syndrome

I'm trying to figure out what happened between game 1 and game 2 myself.
He looks like a new man game 1, 5 TD's. Then next game 3 interceptions.
Is it QB pressure? The pass coverage? The pressure from the fans?
The offensive line was able to give him more protection against a bad WK team and he could make up his slow mind about who to fling the ball to or not

Hammer meets nail. The game is too fast for JC against better teams. He gets rattled easy and loses all composure, sad deal, it really is.

All that is expected of Crompton is to manage the game. I didn't have high expectations for him. Just run the show and take care of the football. He is not a playmaker nor do we need him to be.He doesn't have to win the game just don't lose it.

I'm sorry cd12 but you are just flat out wrong. UT NEEDS plays from the QB position. There is NO SEC school on their schedule save maybe Vandy that cannot load up the box and stop a running game... and especially one behind the current Vol OL.

Maybe CLK can fix his head. Maybe he will replace him at some point. But the shear fact of the matter is that UT doesn't have the horses up front to be a one dimensional team like Arkansas was a few years back.

That was a completely different era for college football. In that day Nebraska could dominate with the triple option behind linemen weighing around 250. Players now are bigger and faster. The D's are far more sophisticated as are the O's.

The poor OL blocking and receivers dropping passes and running wrong routes certainly didn't help. Also, the fumbled exchange between Crompton and Sullins was Sullin's fault. The snap count was on 2 and he snapped it on 1.
