crompton around campus

I am completely aware of that. And I'm not saying that's okay.

no, what you are saying that it's ok up to an approved point. Problem is that people don't always agree on what that point is. One guy makes signs and puts them in the dorm and the other cuts letters out of the paper to build a letter. Both think they are doing what they need to do

That is beyond asinine.

This all revolves around keeping it in perspective of a game. This is not life or death. No one should fear significant physical injury for under performance... especially in a sport.

Since you took my comments to assume he deserves death threats, are you saying people posting on his Facebook wall, booing, or writing signs about him are equivalent to death threats?

Seriously?

"I'm a man. I'm 40!" comes to mind. Again, he's 22, he's a 5th year senior. He should have thick skin and be able to handle the pressure. He's the quarterback... the position with the most consistent pressure of any person on the team. If he doesn't want the pressure he can not be the QB.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be think skinned or be able to handle the pressure. All I'm saying is NO ONE deserves personal attacks for playing a game. I'm sure there isn't a Vol fan anywhere who isn't frustrated, but there is no reason to take it so far as personal attacks and wishing ill will towards the guy.

Woah man I don't think the Zodiac is after Jon Crompton

Hmmm... yes?

Are you saying no criticism, ever, should be the norm?

Of course there will be different lines for different people. But I think we can all agree death threats are above the line, and signs are below the line.

It seems that many of Crompton's defenders ("He's a Vol!") think that no criticism should be allowed, ever. I guess I just disagree with that. It isn't like he hasn't received something from the University (free degree, travel, food, etc.).

The real world isn't so happy-touchy-warm-feely either. He needs to get used to criticism so he can be a member of society in the real world... because he won't be playing in the NFL.

Marked criticism is one thing...I think everyone has criticized his play. It's all the personal garbage and attacks he gets. QB or not, he doesn't deserve that.

Booing is a product of expectations, enthusiasm, and alcohol, which also happens to be the things that make a great fan base when you are winning (maybe not necessarily alcohol). You pick your poison. If you want your fans to be emotional, including being loud when you're winning, come to an SEC school, but you better be ready for criticism.

As far as the personal messages, I would never go that far, and feel somewhat bad in that respect. But he is 22, and that's the pressure of his position. He's naive if he expects any different after the egg he laid, but the fans (including myself) were also naive in expecting better from JC and this offensive line.

i think what the majority of people are trying to say is we all think he is an awful QB but my goodness the personal attacks are terrible. Boo him at home, in the stands, or at the bar but the facebook and in person crap is sickening.

Imagine you were 22 and you couldnt live your life..the guy prob has to stay at home to stay away from ruthless idiots. imagine how you feel after making an ass of yourself in whatever situation that involves people u see daily and how it would make u feel for those people to say these things...we need to support him and hope a miracle happens that includes Peyton Manning and Crompton pulling a FACEOFF Nicholas Cage/John Travolta move before the FLa game...in all seriousness lay off the kid outside of football

i saw a number of them today....

no crompton....

although i did hear his facebook wall was just brutal to read.
Wow. Well that just sucks. I don't think he'll EVER be a competent D1 QB, but I can't imagine allowing wishing ill on anyone PERSONALLY about a game. I certainly don't doubt you, but I hope it's not true. Boooing X 1,000

He must be a prick to get that kind of flack from fellow students.

Crompton is literally the joke of the campus here. 2 of my professors made multiple direct jokes knocking him today. You just hear people saying, "don't Crompton it" etc.

I dont have a problem with booing in the stadium but I do have a big problem with people messing with him in his personal life away from the football field. One of my good friends was walking to class behind Crompton one day last year during the season and a car pulled up and yelled "**** you Crompton!" to him. Stuff like that is just ridiculous and I guarantee the people who do crap like that have never played a down of football. His facebook is very brutal. People need to get some decency when a guy is just trying to make it through the day.

I've met Crompton on a number of occasions and he's never been anything but genuinely nice. I've heard nothing but good things from other players and people that know him about him as a person.

In my opinion, its pretty freaken sad that people are going on his facebook page to bash him. He's our qb, if only for a little bit longer. I wish him the best and hope he does great against Florida so a lot of people will shut up.

Facebook accounts are only accessible to whomever the account holder allows access. I went to see the brutal page and couldn't because I have not been added as his friend. Seems strange to think Crompton's friends would bash him on his Facebook page. Just another rumor maybe?

No i've seen it. You have to be a facebook friend of his to see the page but he accepts or well did accept just about anyone who sent him one.

This kind of stuff is pathetic.Yeah, he's not been a very good QB for the Vols, but he is a Vol and our "fans"certainly shouldn't be spewing hate towards him,and screwing with him while he's just trying to go on about his life when he's not on the field.

I also agree with another thing you said MattVols, I can guarantee you that most of these monday morning QB's have never played one single down of HS football, and they know absolutely nothing about the game......bunch of morons is what they are.

its not really his game play that gets me upset. i mean its not what makes me dislike the guy. that can be fixed, at least i hope....but what gets me upset with him is show of lack in team spirit.. i mean you screw up, own up to, and let every one know that you care and are willing to at least try and improve...i mean we know it and he knows it, most of those screw ups was him, but he wont admit to it. and thats what my problem is, its almost like his heart just isnt into it. if he cared he should let the fans know..
but this is just what i see in the games and his actions after the game, i could be way wrong on all this.
as far as threats go and what not.... that crap just isnt cool
but this is just my opinion i could be wrong and if so then i apologize

Maybe he accepts the negative crap from people as his form of self punishment so he doesn't feel like he has to apologize. It's like when you spilled your drink on the carpet for the 10 th time. Your parents beating your @ss doesn't really keep it from happening again. He'll be fine with some better line play.

Comments like that will only make it worse for him when he trys to play again! Leave him alone if you cannot say anything nice to him!
