Crompton and the VolNation Alarmist Response

I agree. I was completely embarrassed at the game when the fans around me began to call for his head or his life. I mean yea he might suck, but he is a vol and deserves a little more "human respect" than that.

I completely agree with you. Talking about the qb performance is what we should be doing...and be very concerned about. But talking about him as a person is another thing. Let's keep it to football.

That is the most idiotic reply I could have imagined. So you are saying that you know something about Crompton that makes it allright to throw personal attacks at him? Great, I am sure he deserves the death threats now. By the way, wearing pajamas in public is a choice that should earn you a little ridicule. Thanks for giving the "he called me a name first" arguement. Can you please contact all future recruits and explain to them tha one poster on Volnation once saw Crompton make fun of someone else, so that is why the fan base talks of killing players when they don't perform. I am sure the will understand.

:stop:This is a simple request to the fans of the Vols. Please, can we not attack Crompton anymore. I am not talking about his performance (horrible) or whether or not Stephens should get a shot (he should). What I am talking about is giving him human respect.
Remember, this is a kid who has busted his rear for UT, chose to be a Vol over many others, and maybe most importantly, will be a vol for life.

We all have seen his performance and it is what it is. Whether or not he plays is not up to him, all he can do is try his best.
Please understand what I am saying. This is a forum where we should discuss mistakes in play, but commnet about him being the worst ever, or being a mental midget serve no purpose. I understand the angst, I nearly kicked my TV in, changed the channel back and forth a dozen times and vowed never to look on a FB message board again.
It is obvious Crompton is not the kind of QB that can lead us back to the top of the SEC, at least not now. But he is still a Vol by choice. Whetehr we regret that choice or not, lets not make him or any other future player regret the decision to be a Vol. FLAME ON

The decision Crompton should regret is ever picking up a football.

I love Crompton's grit, but the young man is a LOST CAUSE when it comes to being a quarterback at the highest level (or even an acceptable level).

Only if he has enough personal respect to shave that stupid crap off his face for once in his career. Would be a first sign of growth.

Name 1 starting QB that you have seen, on any level (pee wee, high school, college, pros, etc.) who plays/played worse?

Our offensive line is to blame as much as crompton if not more....go watch the couple of series....the brothers sullins are pretty bad....but i still love my vols....crompton is better than stephens.....lets just deal with that fact and move on....ucla might prove to be pretty decent this year:blink:

I am more pissed off at these coaches who keep playing the worst qb in the history of D-1 football than Crompton himself. Phil and now Phil Jr keep playing this guy evidently for reasons other than performance. I will never backoff expressing my disdain for his poor performance on the field. But thank you Mrs. Crompton for asking us to lay off your son.

I won't belittle him,but I just hope he's making the best of his college classes.I don't see him heading to the NFL,so hopefully he's got a back-up plan.

Thats not what i was saying at all, i apologize if you took it that way. Im saying his general demeanor in life (from my perspective) is deserving of ridicule. I dont care if he made fun of him or not, i thought it was funny, along with the response. But it just shows you the type if person JC is. (from my experiences)

I would imagine he listens to books on tape anyway.

If he read a book he would just stare down one word incessantly...

Screw this thread! This is TENNESSEE!! WE EXPECT MORE!! He chose to come here knowing what this program is all about. Hes a failure at football. PERIOD. We owe it to the tradition of this program to be critical of bad play. He makes excuses, tips his throws, makes HORRIBLE decisions, and looks like a retard in the process. He played worse than any other player in the nation on saturday and when that happens, volnation should react with anger!

Finally a little sanity in this thread

why does anyone have to support him? The fans are paying quality money to see quality football from a quality football program. If some fans have a problem with how horrible Crompton is performing they have the right to express their dis-interest

Has anyone attacked him personally? All I'm seeing are fans righteously criticizing his performance on the football field

If this was an isolated incidence that would be one thing. However, habitually sucking at almost all phases of the quarterback game eventually gets stale with fans. Not supporting crapton does not equate to not supporting Tennessee Football. It just means that fans will support Nick Stephens.

I don't know. I want to boo him and I want to encourage him to do well. What do you do?

I think he's received just about all the encouragement he's needed. If he still can't perform well enough at this point then I believe he can be written off as a lost cause..

Better get on your soap box with the UCLA players, too.

Rahim Moore quote
UCLA DB: "On film, (Crompton) would look guys off. He didn't look anybody off today. Where he was looking was where he was throwing."

This is just my personal opinion, nothing more. But I believe when Cutcliffe recruited Crompton he knew he had the tools to be a good qb, but would need some coaching.. lots of it actually.. and he intended for Crompton to be his "project"...
