A couple of things to remember

I know, damn if only Crompton would throw to the orange jerseys :cray:

heck, just not staring down one receiver would be an improvement.

UCLA Dbacks are bragging to the associated press how easy it was for them to read him

I don't see how anyone can say our QB coaching has been up to par at this point. Crompton hasn't improved at all.

We all saw what a difference a good QB coach could make in 05-06. I was expected some modest improvement at the QB position. This is disappointing so far.

The run blocking will improve once the starting center gets back. The passing game will improve when G Jones gets comfortable in the offense and on the same page as the QB. QB position is still a question mark too many incomplete passes. Defense played solid so did the Running backs with little help from the rest of the offense.

Crompton is no Ainge...

In the wake of the 2007 SECCG, I never thought I would say that I wish we had EA back. But last season made me say it, and I'm saying it even more emphatically now.

Do you understand how underdeveloped we are at quarterback, though?? Underdevelopment of players is a problem inherited by Kiffin. Crompton is a prime example of underdevelopment.

Besides, QB coaching looks at technique, pocket presence, reads, etc. Crompton needs to go to a psychiatrist to work on his problems because they are mental. QB coaching can't help a player's neurological failures. Besides, the previous coaching staff had three years to work with Crompton; Kiffin has had 8 months.

I can't understand why so many of you wanna hang EA out to dry just b/c of that game. He was a solid QB and a team leader. He knew how to manage a game, had confidence in his abilities and won us a lot of close ones. People are so quick to abandon faith in a player b/c of one small mistake. It makes no sense.

He did improve over last season. He threw for 5 TD's last week. He did not do that versus NIU, Wyoming or anyone else last year.

my god. i was waiting for this.

now who's going to be the first to point out saban lost to Louisiana-monroe and relate this to that?

For what? You can't fire a coach after 2 games. The QBs on this team are pathetic. There is nothing Kiffin can do with it.

Cutcliffe went to Duke to get away from Crompton, Clawson got fired and now Kiffin has to deal with it.

It is what it is. The same people wanting Kiffin fired are the same idiots yelling "Tennessee is back!" after last week's game.

for all you whining, mouthbreathing idiots that want to blame Kiffin:
1) Pete Carroll went 6-6 his first year at USC

2) Kiffin can't help that Crompton sucks and Stephens isn't any better

This team is physical. This team can play some hellacious defense. However, the O is what it is. Get over it.

You see what Clawson has done at BGSU.
Excellent post JG. Some so-called fans are just so far in the out in left field, I wish they would jump ship and pull for another team, not the Vols. Disgusting.

Good post. Kiffin was left with a turd at the QB position. He can't make a diamond out of it.

i've never once said that. I've always felt that this was going to be a rebuilding year and we were 6-8 wins (8 being a longer shot).

I was just amused by there's always someone pointing this stuff out - saban went 6-6, carroll went 6-6, it means we'll be playing for an SEC championship next year, or all the high and mightiness after WKU

seriously i did expect someone to come in saying - it's ok, saban lost to a terrible team too, or something along those lines since we keep making coaching comparisons

I never thought kiffin should be fired after two games; that's awful. But people did need to realize that WKU game was WKU; and that this team is rebuilding and we won't be at the level they want for - at best 1 year but most likely 2-3

Good points all, jg.

Like most of the realistic/rational posters here, I didn't believe the Vols were going to be world-beaters coming into the season or even after the WKU beat down. I was however holding out a little hope that Crompton might be able to somewhat figure things out this year... but obviously he hasn't, and it is what it is.

I am with you. Kiffin has done everything he said he was going to do. He didn't promise wins, just that no one would outwork him and I honestly believe that no one has. We all should expect some growing pains this year.

The point is that the fans do not know if Stephens is pathetic or not this season? What happened to the mantra no position is safe except Berry's?

Justin do you think they will get any of the on the field discipline and the timing that we saw in the first game back by the Alabama game? Because usually that’s the biggest thing with a new staff and offensive system. Also as the recivers get more accustomed to the routes and spotting will they get better separation,or are we gonn have to wait for the better talent to get here? Because looks like that is a big thing in this USC/hybrid/KIFFIN offense, that the receivers must get better 1 on 1 seperation!

If stephens can't outperform crompton in practice how can you expect him to do it in a game?

Kiffin is the man. I hate it for the defense, but the Offense just is not that good.

Or an OL who can block someone over 200 lbs...

True. But that's where you keep your head in the game and still make smart decisions. I didn't see him able to make smart decisions under pressure. Some guys have it and some guys don't. It's nothing against Jonathan as a person.
