Let’s operate under the assumption that Coleman won’t play here (based on the news today).

Tyree Weathersby6’5â€272 lbsEDGERedshirt Junior
Mariyon Dye6’5â€245 lbsEDGESophomore
Carter Gooden6’5â€255 lbsEDGEFreshman
Jordan Carter6’4â€250 lbsEDGEFreshman
Kedric Golston II6’4â€260 lbsEDGEFreshman
Carson Gentle6’3â€265 lbsEDGERedshirt Sopho

Here is what we have at EDGE. How bad does this hamper our D? We were gutted in the portal at end.

Any of our massive stable of LBs move down?

(sorry for the one weird column… did it on AI)

But that is razor thin, and 100% unproven.
I’m sorry, but what was the news today? I had heard positive reports for the past few days.

My thought is move Telander to edge. With the linebacker room being full of studs, all quicker than Telander, move him down and put about 20 more lbs on him. He is a good tackler, has a good football IQ and toughness.

No but he is obviously mentally weak or he just hasn't kept his word. Regardless if he had no intention of playing here he shouldn't have committed to us. He should also be forced to give his NIL $ back bcuz that could have been used on someone who actually wanted to be here and someone who wouldn't turn his back on his teammates and keep his commitmentm
Yeah, I get all that. None of that has anything to do with being a thug. There is no rationalization of the claim

I said this earlier. You just can't plan anything with this kid in the picture. You move on and work with what's known. If he shows up and contribute, fine, but you don't count on guys like Coleman. If he and his family don't want to be here, just return the money and transfer already. Why drag things out?
Yea,, sure this will happen,,,,, NOT LIKELY..

Gawd. What were they thinking?
they were thinking he had a higher pressure % rate than Myle's Garrett did his freshman year, and a higher pressure rate than all but 1 edge that went in this year's draft. The kid had a lot of promise at the position and a ton of athleticism. His pressure rate was just off the charts for a freshman.

I like the idea of giving some LBs some opportunities to rush the Qb. Its a very crowded room and keeping the young talent involved could help solve the problem of keeping the roster intact and the lack of pure pass rushers in the DE room.

Perlotte, Burns, Harmon and maybe Rouse and White can be 3rd down pass rush specialists.

Hard to just cut ties with a $3.5M investment. Not to mention what this tells financial
supporters. You have to pull out all stops to get this kid on campus, even if he
never plays a down. He shows enormous potential obviously.

Terrible depth and experience, Even with Coleman, and a complete head scratcher how they let Ross and Herring bail. There lack of success in the portal here is a mystery. Likely going to play some with three LBs and three lineman.

Weathersby has good size on him so he’ll play. Dye and Gooden were both top 100 recruits in their respective classes according to 247 (Dye was 94th last year’s cycle and Gooden was 66th this year’s recruiting cycle) Gentle probably won’t get a lot of playing time, he was ranked outside the top 100 at his position in his class as a three star recruit. Same with Golston. Carter was the 28th best EDGE in this year’s class and was a 4 star recruit so I’d imagine he gets some playing time as well. With that being said, all of this is based on recruiting rankings, height and weight, not performance in the weight room, practice tape, 40 times ect
You are correct that you can’t just rely on HS rankings, Gholston was very impressive in Spring and the coaches think he will contribute this fall in the rotation and definitely on ST

They left because for one TN cut ties with Coach Chop. Ross could be a great player, but he’s very lazy and needs to grow up. I wish Herring had stayed.

There are reports he showed up out of shape and hasn't really improved much in that regard so even if he comes in now he won't be ready to play at the level he is getting paid to play at.

Cut him loose.

If Hype hasn't learned to nip this stuff in the bud with Nico and Boo he never will and it will be the end of him. Guys like this poison a locker room.

Coleman is a selfish child, cut ties and file a lawsuit to recover money if he broke anything in the contract.

If he didn’t break anything in the contract, you need the fire of the idiot that wrote the contract that’s supposed to represent the best interest of UT.

There’s some conflation going on here between LEO and 5 tech DE (doesn’t have to be 5 tech alignment)

Jordan Norman should be the main LEO, and he’s bigger than the LEOs under Banks— which may be a feature under Knowles.

My concern is the depth behind him. Luckily the staff took a metric sh!t ton of DL in the 2026 class.

Here’s what DL depth looks like:

Nose/1 tech: Gilliam/Robinson/Campbell/Finch/Simmons

3 tech/DT: Hobbs/Utley/House/Rivers

5 tech/DE: Weathersby/Dye/Gentle/Groves

LEO: Norman/Gooden/Carter/Harris

I list those guys at LEO because I believe they have the build and traits Knowles wants at the position.

In some early down scenarios, I expect Knowles to deploy sort of a blitzing SAM. This is where a guy like Telander can shine. See ball, get ball. Guys like TJ White might also thrive in this role, or you could use Gass like that from the WILL role.

So many exciting possibilities, even without Chaz Coleman, and I love the underclassmen talent we have at DL. Chances of CRG getting good play from a couple of those guys are high.

Thanks @benholt06 I feel slightly better about the defensive front.

Definitely looks like a kid suffering from mh issues. Didn't they delete his IG account not long after? I'm not saying he is a thug at all but I'd be willing to say he just doesn't like Knoxville and for whatever reason he was advised to get that bag and then transfer in the summer but let's see how it plays out.. I hope im dead wrong though.

And yeah our LB room is full of talent. Lets see what one of those guys can do in the trenches

Does anybody truly know if Coleman is getting paid to hold out? This NIL crap is starting to get ridiculous. I get it if you're home sick but if you're collecting a paycheck to hold out and you know you're not playing ball in Knoxville every dime should be recovered. I have no idea how this works but this is getting ridiculous.

As far as this thread goes give a guy that less talented a chance that is 100% committed to the program than to constantly cater to guys that aren't. I'd rather lose with committed guys than win with guys you constantly have to beg to stay
Yes, I knelt for a fact he is getting paid! The deal with Spyre enabled him to receive compensation before the start of summer camp.
