2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

The Coliseum rocked as hard as any arena back in the Kirk and Finch days. Denny Crum coming into town with the likes of Milt Wagner, Pervis Ellison etc was an unreal atmosphere and one of the best in the country. Packed, loud, raucous and intimidating.
The 1983 National semifinal game between Louisville and Houston was one of the most entertaining basketball games I have ever watched.

The "Doctors of Dunk" vs "Phi Slamma Jamma"

Louisville had the McCray boys, Lancaster Gordon and Milt Wagner.

Houston had Clyde Drexler. Micheal Young, Akeem Olajuwon and Benny Anders.

Yep I believe Memphis state lost to Houston in KC. Keith Lee, Bobby parks, Doom Haynes, Baskerville Holmes, Andre Turner…

The Tigers with Keith Lee and William Bedford were really good during those years

We need a big ol 7 footer like Uros Plavsic because he proved that having a 7 footer on your roster will get you to the Final 4.
If we had him one more year we may have been there. Or not. He probably would have shut Edey down but what would we have given up to get that one match up?

"Just how big was that shoe box?"..."Oh...about 71/2 I think" :) . Keith Lee was actually a good guy. His ole knees and feet gave out on him! And William...just a sad situation for sure.

Am I the only one who feels like Rubin, Brown, and Lue are gonna be just fine offensively? Obviously our fives will have to put in a shift defensively, and Rubin has shown he can be an elite shot blocker + athletic. But all three also have offensive game - just because our guards look like they'll be so elite, I wouldn't write the big men off.

As an example, just last season, Rubin shot 71% at the rim as THE guy defenses keyed in on, the year before was 78%. I don't think he'll be asked to do much more than that, and it was his mid-range percentage (37% on 100 attempts last year) that pushed his numbers down.

Man, serious nostalgia kudos on that one.

Wasn't there a Border Wars before Gridscape? The early days of recruiting entertainment was Jamie Newbern's show on Saturday that also took the name Border Wars I think. I think following recruiting was more fun and kids were more humble and less self centered.

I actually think Lue is a lot better than people think. No, I don’t think he’ll start or anything but he’s a hard-nosed guy. Loves playing defense and doing the dirty work. He also has a lot more offensive game than we’ve had at that spot. He’s a lot better pickup than some realize

With how perimeter oriented the our big signings have been, our bigs should get some great looks and an endless about of 1 on 1s in the post. I think guys like Brown, Lue, Haralson (JH less so) are tailor made for the 4/small ball 5 spot when we spam the PNR/horns action and look for our big to either slash or make a second pass to a shooter. A big offseason from brown and I think he shocks a lot of people with his value next season.

Being from West TN, I used to follow Memphis State during the Keith Lee, Elliot Perry days.
There were other good/legendary names during those times I can't recall off the top of my head.

I totally agree I think someone said there was a total of 21 dunks in the game. It was a great game to watch as a fan.

Yes, and Jumpmaster. Also remember Smokey81,82,83 or something like that. I believe he was an old fraternity brother.

Does Chuck still live in Cleveland?
I believe he does. Jumpmaster yes he brings back a lot of good memories. Wonder whatever happened to him? JJF was from my hometown. Played tennis at UT. He passed away about 15 years ago.
