2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

As long as we’re making **** up.. OK!
No fabrication needed my Vol compatriot. I’m talking about the tournament game. Estrella handled him the best. Yes the limits were fairly low and Edey still tore us up overall, but JP held his own better than Aidoo and Awaka. Maybe Edey’s style lined up with JP better, I don’t know and it doesn’t matter.

Rubin and Brown are big bodies who have shown rim protection skills. My argument is based on roster makeup and scheme, not just offense. This idea that unless it says "7'0" next to a player that he isn't a "big body" is absurd. I'm sure we'll add another big before this is over, but I'm sure as hell not going to sweat it.
Brown? A rim protector? Granted I haven't checked the stats, but he never impressed me as a shot blocker.

Payne wasn't coming here to be the 4th or 5th guard. We would have to bargain shop a lot more than that if we want another.

I really liked Amari, but playing the victim like this is a real d-bag move. Barnes loved him and never made a secret of it - perhaps Amari just didn't like being coached as hard as CRB. "After what I've been through"? Damn, grow up, kid.
Maybe he went through some personal things that were tough. This sounds like girl drama to me. Who knows though?

I'm just going to assume you've never been to Austin, TX. Very liberal, very progressive. Much like Pittsburgh, where he is from.

And I'm not even saying that those social differences were necessarily the reasons he didn't like Knoxville. Maybe he didn't like the University of Tennessee specifically, maybe the campus, the student body. I don't know the exact reasons. I just dont think it was money, and the sole fact that he transferred to UT-Austin isn't necessarily the proof you think it is that money was the lone determinant.
Lived in Austin for two years and hated every minute of it. Outside of both being bigger cities than Knoxville, I’m not sure I’d say Austin and Pittsburgh are very comparable. I’ve only been to Pittsburgh once, but outside of both being progressive, they feel very different culturally.

Maybe I’m wrong and there were other reasons, but if he genuinely missed Pittsburgh, Austin feels like an odd choice.

So he is moving to Texas? I understand if he didn't like Knoxville but Texas sucks and is even more different than Pittsburgh. Maybe you're right and he was just looking for a reason to leave but lets be real, that reason was money. I completely understand the money part and would move to Texas too for a massive raise, but if he didnt like TN, then he is gonna hate Texas.
Maybe he prefers the huge downtown area compared to the laid back Knoxville.

Culturally, I would agree. Pittsburgh is still northeastern, and Austin is still southern. So, from that perspective, I agree...they're different.

I guess I was thinking of how he may have felt about the social life, city size, lifestyle, etc.

Why all this consternation over a player who averaged 4.1 points and shot 41% from field, 22% from 3 and 57% from free throw line. Evans left and we replaced him with a better player. That being said, he made a choice and it’s really not going to hurt UT. My guess on him leaving is he doesn’t like Barnes hard coaching style and money. I highly doubt he hated Knoxville so much he left for less money.

You have been on this for awhile man...and you keep saying phrases that are grossly vague and subjective...

What is formidable exactly to you? Bold are the only players I'd say were formidable in their championship seasons

Michigan:
Yaxel - 6'9" 230lbs - 15.1ppg, 6.8rpg, 3.2apg, 1.2bpg
Johnson - 6'9" 255lbs - 13.1ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.1bpg
Mara - 7'3" 240lbs - 12.1ppg 6.8rpg, 2.6bpg

Florida:
Condon - 6'11" 230lbs - 10.6ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.3bpg
Haugh - 6'9" 210lbs - 9.8ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.2apg
Chinyelu - 6'11" 245lbs - 6.0ppg, 6.6rpg, 0.9bpg

UConn:
Clingan - 7'2" 265lbs - 13.0ppg, 7.4rpg, 2.5bpg
Karaban - 6'8" 210lbs - 13.3ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.5apg

UConn:
Sanogo - 6'9" 240lbs - 17.2ppg, 7.7rpg, 1.3apg
Clingan - 7'2" 265lbs - 6.9ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.8bpg
Karaban - 6'8" 210lbs - 9.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.7apg

Vols this season:
Estrella - 6'11" 241lbs - 10.0ppg, 5.4rpg, 0.8apg
Felix - 6'11" 220lbs - 8.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.5bpg
Carey - 6'8" 245lbs - 7.4ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.3apg

If this new roster doesn't have a 7' frontcourt player but Rubin/Brown/Lue/etc. have productive seasons that would still be a formidable front court. But you seem to think the roster HAS to have a 7' guy for some reason.
I guess there are several ways to describe what I mean by formidable. If your front court has guys who have the potential to be a mid/late first round or even early second round draft picks in the NBA then I would consider that formidable, as opposed to elite. If you would want to trade your team's guy at the same position for their team's guy, then he is probably formidable by comparison. If all the major pundits refer to your front court as one of the best in the country, then I would say that is a formidable front court. There are lots of ways to define it, but it doesn't necessarily mean your front court is loaded with lottery picks. I hope that helps explain how I look at it.
BTW, I would generally agree with the players you have highlighted above but would probably include Mara as a formidable player. His 26 points and two blks against Arizona were impressive and he effects the game a lot outside of the boxscore by causing opponents to "look over their shoulder" when trying to score in the paint. This year I would throw Haugh in there too as he would have been drafted in the first round this year if he didn't decide to return to FL.
Also, I don't think a formidable big has to be over 7' tall. There are talented bigs like Sanogo that play the 5 position, as you highlighted above. As I have said before, I like Rubin, Lue, and Dewayne but I am concerned about how they will match up with the big bruising front courts of the SEC, as well as with the quality front courts of the top ten teams in the country. I would like to see the VOLS excel at all 5 positions to have a better chance of reaching the FF.
