JP was ranked 16th in the SEC in 2 point shooting % at 60.4%. Felix at 61.1% was the only Vol with a higher % than this.

Can't hit layups is just BS...harp on something that's true if you wanna bash the guy.

Yep. Only 3 of the players with higher 2pt% took more 2point shots than JP too...so most with better % benefited from less volume helping their numbers.

I don’t think that is the case at all. I was in the camp thinking he would jump but other factors were larger.

His family is from middle tn. Since he committed to Vandy, his family has been welcomed into the Vandy alumni and supporter community. It’s been almost 3 years. It’s where his family lives and who they interact with.

It would be like ZZ transferring out his senior year for money only purposes.

Tanner is very religious and very forward in his beliefs and sharing them. It is not surprising to me that he stayed with the team that bet on him to start.

I respect that more than leaving at the last minute. In today’s day and age it’s rare.

Hastings and Juke/Ament and we might see that elusive F4. Right now we have another good team. A quite differently constructed team than usual, but not quite top 5 (according to all the analytics don't @ me).

It would be disappointing if we really do have some huge cash leftover and don't get to spend it. Need that 1 dog imo. Juke is that. Fingers crossed.

The “can’t make layups” statement that is seen and repeated several times a day on this board is always interesting. That phrase makes it seem simple to just make your layups. Easy, right? The reality is that layups down low are contested in most cases, and not only contested, but usually tend to come with hard fouls. Sometimes players adjust going up in anticipation of getting fouled, then don’t and they miss because their adjustment caused the miss. It’s complicated.

So if he was expected to make more “layups” to meet whatever quota will make people happy here, he’d have been a 15+ ppg player with close to 70+ fg% and that’s INSANE. You’d be in Zion Williamson territory.

So I think people just talk out their ass without actually putting in real thought into what they are saying. Because my interpretation of it is “oh you aren’t one of the 5 or 6 best college players of the last decade? Well, you were very replaceable”. Which, they don’t realize that’s what they are saying, but that’s what the numbers would tell us if he actualized all those blown layups they speak of.

It’s silly. And I’m not even some big JP guy. I’m just not dumb, is all.

Ideas about the NBA. Nate will be a better pro,but UT is a college program and Ames will definitely help us next year. Different players at different positions. No way to compare the 2.

Ok. I made a statement earlier that I hadn’t heard anything about TT with the caveat that I don’t have the same insider connections inside Tennessee that I once did. However, I do have connections that are good in Middle, Tennessee.

I honestly believe after what I heard today that there is a substantial chance that TT will come to Tennessee. You have to assume unless it’s a first hand account, that the information people get is not always complete and there are missing pieces. However, from what I’ve been told, this is a Tennessee or NBA situation. I would be very surprised if he is back at Vanderbilt. Take it for what it’s worth.

We have several posters on here with really good connections, and this matches up with what they have said.

Well, in his defense, he did try to violently dunk that one time from like 6 feet away from the basket...

lol yeah he tried that a few times. I kinda liked him showing aggressiveness and trying to draw a foul at least but let’s scoot in a little and have a chance to finish one of those. Looked a little silly coming up 3 feet short but that was JPs response to being challenged to go up strong.

Not to pick on FranklinVol as he seems to be solid but this is a typical pattern from the insiders on here. They all hate Tony B but they do the same kind of stuff Rev it up, then when they're wrong act like they didn't push the very narrative they are now critical of.

Just like I said in another post i feel like we’re somewhere between 17-22 currently. Not bad but not what anyone or myself wants considering the money we are spending. Get Juke and shore up our post play and I feel like if the pieces mesh together we can easily be top 10

We will shot a higher percentage from all spots on the court. Inside defense may be better because most of the new guys are faster a foot, seem to be more athletic, and handle the ballot the dribble than teams in the pst except for zz. We may never find another ZZ type player. Two-three Freshmen will play a lot of minutes and we have a couple of studs from the portal. I believe we will run the break better than last year and probably play better zone defense. I see an upgrade from last year, but we will have to see how much better they shoot free throws.

Would you prefer Estrella to Juke? I sure as $h!t wouldn’t. I also disagree on Estrella being the perfect fit, Okpara would be a much better fit, you complain about Lundblade’s defense but then say Estrella is the perfect big to round out a roster that desperately needs an elite defensive big?

Would choose Okpara over Estrella for next years team 69 out of 69 times

I feel like Hill is a Gillespie/Lanier level transfer that people will look back on and rave about once all is said and done. Kid is special - pair him up with someone like Juke and the rest of the pieces on the roster, all of whom look like they can take over a game, and I think we will be up there at the very top.

I think some folks on here got played judging by page after page of fretting and guessing and relying on so called “insiders” who knew nothing. I don’t believe he ever had any intention of entering the portal.

Chaz was the 4th overall player the year before
Dalton was the 20th overall player the year he came in

I think Hill a great addition not sure I'd agree he is on the same level, at least based on On3 ratings as Chaz or Ja'Kobi. But this class of portal additions includes far more help around Hill than any of the other 3 had gotten.

I’m don’t know. The info I got was we reached out again but not multiple calls back and forth. I believe Tennessee made a compelling pitch. I never heard anything about Tanner’s agent reaching out though.

In the end, I feel like the money is probably similar and his other social and family factors, that tipped the scales. I go to lots of Vandy basketball games each year and his family are first class folks.

Speaking of. I also recently looked at those old rankings and it didn’t match with my memory. Specifically Chaz and Dalton.

I could be wrong. I haven’t put in the effort to verify my suspicions. But I feel like Dalton especially wasn’t ranked nearly that high at the time.
