I get it but still seems silly to put too much weight into it. This is extreme but Michigan would have had a much higher returning minutes % if they didn't bring in Yaxel and Mara. They also wouldn't have had near the efficiency rating and wouldn't have won a championship. I don't doubt having returners setting the culture helps but at the end of the day you need Jimmys and Joes. It’s weighted into to the teams efficiency ratings - and there is a trend that shows some correlation with continuity
Yeah, I was sitting here thinking how they seem to simply steal the statement from other players' announcements, and roll with it. They all seem so similar.Such is the state of college sports that I don't believe this press release any more than I believe almost all the other statements made by professional athletes.
It's part of his job to make a supportive statement.
Don't misunderstand me - I want to believe it. But who would I be kidding? If they're staying they're gonna say something positive about being committed to the thing. If they're leaving, they're going to "thank the fans" and "make a decision after much thought and consultation" so they "do what's best for them." It's all part of the game now.
Again, no axe to grind with Brown, if he's playing, he's playing, great for him. But none of this rings true anymore. Just PR work.
A bit surprised by Boswell and Phillips but not surprised at all by Estrella. In fact, I posted early in the season that I wouldn't be surprised if he hit the portal with the way he was being handled. The two I figured were locks to keep were Evans and Brown, as Rick raved about them all season and commented on how much they'll grow into the program.
Surprised at Estrella and Boswell, kinda shocked at Cade.
Below is a plot of the power conference teams this season by minutes continuity and KenPom Adjusted efficiency. Of the top 10 teams Duke was the only team below 30% continuity, but they were still in the top half of college basketball. Michigan is next lowest and they were still in the top 3rd, like I mentioned. Kenpom did an analysis that showed teams with higher continuity tend to have better efficiency. Obviously teams shouldn't just aim to maintain continuity to get better, adding better players is how you get better, but it seems that continuity is a reflection of a synergy on a roster that tends to have successI get it but still seems silly to put too much weight into it. This is extreme but Michigan would have had a much higher returning minutes % if they didn't bring in Yaxel and Mara. Edit: I'm also trying to convince myself that everything will be ok next year so if I'm in denial just leave me be lol
