How many players on WBC rosters have UT ties? Move if needed: I’ve come up with:

Andrew Fischer: Team Itaty

And

Lucas Ramirez(former UT commit): Team Brazil.

Yan Gomes is not on team Brazil this year.

Also that Prager guy from Texas A&M is on Team Israel and Bryce Harper owns a home in Knoxville so there’s that.

This is probably a stupid question, but can someone explain to me like I’m 5 why American players are playing for these other teams? Do they not have their own citizen athletes?

There are no stupid questions.

Because I said so.

Now, finish your SpaghettiOs, clean your dishes and go bathe before bedtime.

AND STOP PESTERING YOUR LITTLE SISTER!

(How was that?)

World Baseball Classic eligibility rules

The World Baseball Classic (WBC) is famous for having the most flexible eligibility rules in international sports. Unlike the FIFA World Cup, where players are generally tied to a nation once they play a competitive match, the WBC allows players to represent countries based on "heritage" even if they have never lived there.

A player is eligible to participate if they meet any one of the following:

Citizenship: The player is a citizen of the nation and holds a valid passport.
Permanent residency: The player is a permanent legal resident of the nation.
Birthplace: The player was born in the nation or territory.
Parental heritage: The player has at least one parent who is a citizen of the nation (or was at the time of their death).
Parental birthplace: The player has at least one parent who was born in the nation or territory.
Legal eligibility: The player can provide documentary evidence that they would be granted citizenship or a passport under the nation's laws (even if they haven't applied for it yet).
Historical participation: The player has previously appeared on a nation’s final roster for a WBC tournament or qualifier.

Luckily, I think it's on YouTubeTV so I'll be able to watch.

Looking at the player stats, it seems Fischer has only played in one game for Italy so far. Wonder if he gets to play tonight?
He homered in one game and downed the celebratory espresso in the Italian dugout like a boss. That’s all I know.

I drove down to Miami over the weekend for a couple of days and went to the Saturday game between Venezuela and Israel to support my wife country Venezuela since USA isn't playing in Miami. It was packed. I knew Venezuela would blow them out but still was so much fun. Lots of drums beating and dancing and chanting " We want Dominican" by the Venezuela fans. MLB doesn't got nothing on World Baseball games. So much pride between the fans from different countries. Reminds me of Tennessee - Bama games or Bama - Auburn rivalry games

Tomorrow night game between Venezuela and Dominican Republic is one of the most expensive ticket items in baseball ever. Seats below are going for $5000 a ticket and upper section between $400-$1000. It's going to be a great game and fans from both countries are talking smack to each other.

Great young talent coming from both of those systems. Altuve and Alvarado, from the Astros but neither are playing this cycle.

That’s awesome. I bet it was a blast. Nothing like being proud of your heritage. BTW, What’s your fav stogie? I’m a fan of My Father but don’t partake like I used to…

yes your right, so many great players from both countries. Being a Braves fan myself, I wanted to see Ronald Acuna Jr. Venezuela has their hands full with Dominican. They are loaded. USA is loaded too and don't count out Japan and Puerto Rico too. It's going to be some really good baseball in the finals.

Big kudos to Team Mexico for cleaning up their dugout following their game. Courtesy check to the rest of the slobs… Rule for my teams? Leave it cleaner than you found it, a corollary from Leave No Trace.
