Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Nice to see all the Orthopedic Surgeons and Athletic Trainers trashing Jermod McCoy on the FF. Being an amateur armchair coach and AD is bad enough.
They are stupid. There is no reason for JM to go through any of the skills. He is already a first rounder, where else can he go. The combine skills portion is to get noticed and improve draft stock.
Those saying he needs to "put something on tape" are idiots talking about stuff they don't understand. Sounds crazy that it could happen in the FF but it's true.

Honestly any player/sport that has a clear path to the next level professionally...would never expect them to risk that to play a few more games in college.

ZZ was just a different animal...but he also felt college hoops might be where it stops and he loved playing for Barnes and being a vol. He's a 1 in a million.

McCoy really is in a position where he just needs to teams to draft him based on what he did before and how they feel after interviewing him and doing exams. He's really unlikely going to increase his draft stock with drills at this point.
He can always come back after his NFL days are over….

SEC offensive rebounds per game...

Rueben is 1st with 4.2
Wague is 2nd with 3.2
Carey is 3rd with 3.0

Rueben is shooting 59.2% FG, Wague shoots 58.9% FG and then Carey is at 47.2%...

Crazy that among bigs that lead in offensive rebounds he's got one of the worst FG%
View attachment 816769
That's crazy he's averaging just as many OREB as FG lol

That's part of it I think...he's shooting the most FTAs in a season of his career, but now shooting the worst % in his career too.

As fans though we might be a bit too critical... his numbers aren't really down from Vandy

at Vandy: 20 mpg, 8.0 ppg, 48.8% FG, 56.8% FT, 5.7 rpg, 0.8 apg
with Vols: 19 mpg, 7.5 ppg, 47.2% FG, 50.6% FT, 6.2 rpg, 1.4 apg

Just needs to make more shots really...
He just looks extremely tentative under the basket. Imo his rebounding makes up for it.

What we need is Estrella to get it together. He's the most dynamic post player we have.

This is such a stupid rule proposition, not so much with the short shorts but moreso with the requiring them to wear leggings and knee pads. Knee pads dont do anything to protect the knees, if someone hits their helmet or shoulder pads on your knee you’re going to feel it regardless if you have a knee pad
By all means let's not try to make them look clean and professional.

Carey is a Temu Grant Williams….undersized “big man” who can rebound, but, unlike Williams, he struggles to score against taller opponents.
The athleticism and skill difference between those 2 players is like comparing Peyton Manning's passing ability to Anthony Richardson.

Joey and Chris Brazzell both talking about how different the current Vols offense was this past year. Which was obvious to me, but so many still think it's the same offense as 2022 and it wasn't really close. Just unfortunate the defense was so damn bad. We for the first time, had answers on offense when tempo didn't work. Will be interesting to see if we can expand on it with young inexperienced QB's....which is why it would've been nice to get a vet or if our judge had just given us our QB back.

Man you scared me for a moment. Wendell Pierce played Bunk, not Bobby J Brown. I still hate it for his family, though.

Guilty of early morning scatterbrain. This was the pic that came with the story and I could’ve sworn they referenced “Bunk”. Seen his name enough through these years.

Just looked at the current Bracketology. It shows UT as a 5-seed in the South region with the following teams:
1-seed - UConn
2-seed - Florida
3-seed - Houston
4-seed - Texas Tech

That would be a really tough path. Texas Tech already has wins over Duke, Arizona and Houston. They play #4 Iowa State tomorrow.

Pavia measures in 5'9" officially at combine

Young and Murray both went 5'10" so Pavia would become the shortest QB ever drafted in the NFL since the merger

What does system have to do with not being able to hit a layup or missing wide open 3s consistently or stupid turnovers.

Not saying Kim doesn’t have growing, but these girls miss shots and throw the ball away causing them to lose. Got to put ball in hole to win.
They went down the court 6 times in a row and never even got a shot off. Either got the ball stolen or threw it away. This team ball handling and passing and dribbling are horrendous. We rarely get open looks due to good passes. It’s like we have no plan on offense. Nobody works to get open without the ball in their hands. Everybody seems to guard us very well. We can’t guard anybody well. We don’t crash the boards. We got to limit player minutes at this point. Mass substitutions aren’t working, playing minutes need to be earned by performance, not because it rotation time. If you continually make bad decisions you need to sit.

Texas Tech lost JT Toppin for the year to an ACL tear. Might have won his second straight Big 12 player of the year. They are still good, but Toppin was averaging 22 and 11.
