Joey Aguilar Eligibility Discussion

What do you think of the Aguilar situation?

  • I WANT HIM BACK HOWEVER WE CAN

  • I want him back, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth

  • I don't want him back because I think Gmac is the better option anyway

  • NO IT'S ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE

  • Don't care let's ride with whoever it ends up being

  • College sports is cooked

Recruiting is over rated anymore at least till collective bargaining happens. Until then it will be who wants to spend the most money on the best players in the portal. Those trams will win 90% of the time. Sad times coming for college football.
You claim recruiting is overrated why? Because if IUs one year???

So if this was Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina or any other school in the SEC, would you be saying the same thing? Be truthful in your answer.
Now let’s say you have a son that is entering his junior or senior season at Tennessee as a QB. He came in as a 5 star and waited his turn to show his worth. Now a player seeks his 8th year, gets granted, and now your son will not get to prove his worth because the player will retain his starting role. Your son ends up sacking groceries at Kroger instead of getting a chance in the NFL. Now is it right? Be truthful.
So which one of our guys entering with a load of stars does not have 3-4 more years to get it done? Why not ASSUME the best guy will get the job? I am betting GMAC gets his shot fair and square.

JA turns it over too much. 10 interceptions last year. 14 the year before . . . Plus his critical turnovers against Bama and Oklahoma (add in a bad fumble against Oklahoma - not totally his fault . . .).

Is he better than what we have in two inexperienced guys? Yep. Will he have turnovers which cost us games? The greatest predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

His 10 interceptions last year could have been worse - he often threw the ball in harms way and got lucky it wasn’t picked.

I would be the first one complaining if it was a player for another team trying to play a 7th or 8th yr.

Joey should not be granted another year, and a 25 yr old man should not be playing college sports against 18-20 yrs olds. Ridiculous.

Hard to find anything here to disagree with.

Then no more Mormon missionaries returning, no more Kelley Washington’s or Chris Weinkie’s. Set an age limit and stick to it, otherwise and how it is now, age isn’t a disqualifying factor and if you read the article you know Joey hasn’t had 4 actual active Div1 level years.

So you want to discriminate against guys that do 4 years of military service then go to college? I don't.

How about let's be ecstatic with the kids we have signed and enrolled. If he gets another year, then fine. If not, VOLS will be as good or better in the long run. GBO!!!!

Joey is already older than Pavia who LITERALLY EVERYONE on this forum despises and talked chit about. He doesn't "deserve" s***. Get a job bud, or join the USFL/XFL/CFL/etc.

Count on it like daylight at 12 every day in the sunshine state.

Count on the meltdown if Joey does come back and wait for it....is announced starter in August. Over/under on how many times Milton/Hooker will be brought up?

Lol. And the first interception. The intewebz will crash.
His age. Is Indiana's formula. ¹

And Josh Heupel still seems to think he may be the best option at QB

Valid point. I remember Casey Clausen’s freshman year and we had, like, three QB’s with a Sevier Country kid as one who waited his turn. Wasn’t fair to him. Politics often play a role in some starting situations but, coaches typically start the kid that gives the best chance to win; even if VN dislikes the choice. Even without the extra years of eligibility in question, it’s always been that type of situation.

10 ints is not that bad. And let’s be honest, about 3-5 of those were not his fault.

Seeing differing opinions about if we want him to return. Would love a space to hear all the thought processes.
For me, I'm of the opinion that it's time for him to move on. I love him as a guy, and he very well may give us the best chance to win (although debatable). BUT it sets a bad precedent. And I know the rules are already being bent and everything, but isn't this what we made fun of Pavia for last season? It's college sports. We don't need 25 year olds playing. The future of the program would be better off anyway with GMac. I'm not willing to put the future of the program on hold because Joey wants one last ride. That's just me. I understand the other side as well. Will be happy either way.

So with this logic, as long as the player keeps getting injured, we just add the number of games played, subtract how many games he could have played, and assess the number of eligible years left? Goodness. I could see some guys granted an 8th, or 9th season. Heck, during the time they're not practicing they could be coaching their son's pop warner league team.

I like JA. I also believe in moving on.

No that’s not what I said. The article was a counterpoint to an article where it was laid out to look like Joey had played 7 full seasons of college football so the laying out of how his seasons went and counting out the games was in response to that.

Had Joey had an additional year at App where he may or may not have even seen the field, I would say his time is up.

Specifically though. Taking into account the Covid waiver and the juco waiver, the only reason someone should find that he doesn’t have a year left, would be counting the initial Community college seasons against him and I just don’t think that should be done.

But I understand the sentiment that some have in moving forward.

An Alabama judge just over-ruled a previous Alabama judge's ruling and denied Bediako's appeal to return to play basketball. I didn't see whether 'Bama has to forfeit any games. He's done at 'Bama. That would make me believe Aguilar is done at U-T.

One went pro, the other played community college….
