2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

So do we feel good about Mathis from LSU? There is a notable absense of DT on the next round of visitors.

Next question, lets assume we feel good about him commiting to us, is he the talent that we wanted or were we outpriced on our primary targets and he is our fallback option. I ask because I'm not a talent evaluator but was hoping for some real game changers at DT and am not sure what the true evaluation is on him and where we expect him to fit into our defense next year.
Taking 1st to commit was what I had read. I have not seen a worry. Question i think is TE.

Interesting take here

confused. Article implies only 3k in portal but we have heard over 10k so it makes no sense unless this was written very early in porthole season.

AP said we have all the momentum for Mathis. He also said at one point we like him and Evans (MSU commit now) just as much as the bama guys. We would take his commitment in a heartbeat. We for sure need atleast 1 to 2 more DLs on top of that.
Yea i was surprised to not see any DT's on the new visit list. Hopefully we also feel good about the young talent (like Cambell) on our current roster. Especially seeing as how Mathis was in his same class. Was also a little surprised we seem to be targeting younger DT's as opposed to the older guys with 1-2 years.

We also had one of the easiest schedules in college football and played (2) top 30 offense's that year. We won't have that Luxory next year with a 9th SEC game and a brutal schedule. Exactwhy Heupel is trying to get someone experienced. Not a schedule you wanna throw out a RS Freshman.
Well, those other teams won't have the luxury of playing against the 2025 Tennessee defense.

And trusting boo. Terrible decision. Plus should have taken more in case McCoy wasn’t ready and he wasn’t and then did what was best for him and train for the draft.
Hindsight. I think they came in overly optimistic which happens when you did as well as they did prior year. Inexcusable but explainable. Some bad injury bug luck too.
I think this season and the steps taken show an increased intensity we have not seen to date.

NOt sure what that has to do with next year, but gotcha! We will play some really good offense's next year, we can't expect the D to do all the work. We can't just be serviceable on offense.

I agree that we need a RB. My point was, we seem to be looking at depth RBs instead of high end starters, for the reasons I mentioned. So it shouldn't surprising that we haven't aggressively pursued the better backs on the market. Depth RBs are plentiful. We'll find one.
I gotcha man. I think my response to you was more just a general statement overall. I feel like our rushing #’s didn’t accurately reflect our ability, or lack there of to rush the football this past year. We are a run first football team and even though JA had an outstanding year #’s wise, we didn’t help our defense a lot and we didn’t get a lot of tough yards that we needed when we needed it… ie goal line situation at Bama, inability to close out UGA, 4th and short drop vs OU. Those plays defined the season.

Yeah nobody had any doubts about the defense being decent.

I think it also hurt us that Moi and Hobbs were out from the start. Banged up all year.

Then again, they did get Schell, which was a horrible whiff. Makes no sense. Jamal Wallace probably didn't develop the way you wanted either.

Why can’t we have a coach that tampers like Lane?

About to grab Seaton smh

😔
It never works out in the end for Lame, have you noticed that? I wouldn't touch Seaton with a ten-foot Beamer. Word for Lame: "It is easier to start a thing than it is to finish a thing."
Character flaws have the unfortunate habit of popping up at the most inconvenient times.

@Ericvol2096 serious question you maybe cannot answer. Has the "program" sorted out the gray market side of portal outreach? Is your group able to help in this space or do they have a "third party" that can? Seems to have been a weakness since outreach would have to start in December or sooner. Seems clear some programs like Indiana clearly have a leg up in that space.

If you can - 1-10 would you place us under or above the middle?

Yep. I think last year and overall recruiting was proven they didn’t a lot right and they switched it up. An they heavily invested in getting better players, evals, and attacking the portal. I don’t think they do well with QB but that’s about it from the portal. They are going to land more DBs and a DT before it closes.
