Group of 5 conference commissioners have to sign off on anything that has to do with CFP. Group of 5 will continue to be in playoffs, only good thing is next season it will be only 1 group of 5 team since starting next year all P4 conference champions get in,whether ranked or not. What if they did away with the automatic bids and merely took the 12 best teams? Could they sue the committee for not selecting a team that wasn't worth crap?
Yes, because they are now going to point to Notre Dame’s exception in future years since they have an agreement in place to automatically get in if they are ranked 12th(13th if the field is expanded) or better. Group of 5 is considered FBS so if they don’t get an invite then it can violate antitrust laws from what I have seen. What if they did away with the automatic bids and merely took the 12 best teams? Well I have thought 8 was the number because surely the best team is in the top 8 ranking. However, if we have to let weak teams in 12 may be it so at least we have 8 good ones. It just means mostly the first round is a joke especially on the 5/12 and 6/11 matchups.Group of 5 conference commissioners have to sign off on anything that has to do with CFP.
