In my lifetime UT has been Blessed by GREAT running backs - Who is your favorite?

Henry was one tough dude for sure. After the fumble recovery, his consecutive runs in the 99 Arky game to win it was one of most amazing series I have seen. He was a man on fire.

A number of people have told me Webb could have been the best ever to play at TN. Shame he got hurt in a cupcake game.

For the series you stated, Henry became my favorite that day.

Chuck Webb and it's not even close. I was there when he tore his knee up. What could have been
He was great but how can we say it's "not even close"

No doubt Chuck was great, but I think the lore of guys like Webb and Robinson have grown over the years because their careers were cut short

Charlie Garner's last season total was 75 yards less than Webb's with 50 less carries. At 7.3 YPC, that was the most explosive season a back ever had at IT.

Yes Garner was a Senior, so let's compare apples to apples (freshman year to freshman year). Jamal's freshman year he matched Webb's 5.9 ypc and had 100 more yards (and tacked on 266 more receiving yards than Webb). Overall, I'd say Jamal had the greatest freshman year of any rb at UT.

You can certainly make an argument that Webb was "the greatest" but I absolutely can't say " it's not even close" when we've had such a rich history of good backs.

My goodness, we had a guy rush for 1500 yards and for 22 TDs last year!

In an adjacent subject, the "obsolete" position of fullback arguably required more skills and Will Howard and Shawn Bryson stand out. He was just a few years before my time but Howard led the SEC in TD's and had 1,100 yards rushing. Shawn Bryson was dynamic. He made the most of his touches and was otherwise facilitating. Seemed like every time he got the ball good things happened.

We both can have our opinions

In full transparency when Chuck Webb was playing until the Alabama game he was alternating carries with Reggie Cobb. Jamals bowl game was a dud against Nebraska. Webb went for close to 3 bills in the cotton bowl against a good Arkansas team (before they were in the SEC) Chuck Webb was Jamal Lewis 10 years before Jamal Lewis. They have a lot in common in they were hurt early. Jamal didn't have the option of turning pro the year he got hurt because he was a true sophomore. Webb got hurt the 2nd game of his redshirt sophomore season at a time when the NFL draft was several more rounds.

I think it's ok to say had Webb returned to play the 1991 season he would have been a sure fire first round pick.

Glad they both wore the orange and white

Anyone except Arian “ Mr. Fumbles “ Foster.
He just REFUSED to hold the ball “ high and tight “.
That’s why he went undrafted. When he finally signed as a free agent,
he was told “ if you continue to fumble Adios “.
He actually didn't fumble that often and was an All Pro in the NFL. It's not why he went undrafted either. His fumbles at UT were just in untimely moments. He was an absolute stud at UT and even more so in the NFL

The damage was already done for him to make a comeback in 91, which led him to go pro.

He should had not been playing in that cupcake game in 90.

Whatever dude. It was a freak thing. Explain this damage that would have prevented him from starting to open the season in 1991 on the road against Louisville over two true freshman James Stewart and Aaron Hayden?

No disrespect but you are out of your freaking mind. If Chuck Webb plays either all season 1990 or 1991 we probably win 10 games and possibly have a chance to win a national championship.

I'm gon say Tony Thompson should be on that list somewhere....if you talk about needing a player to step up and ball out, it was TT

William Howard might be my favorite of all time....he trucked em
Do you remember that fumble rusty play that we pulled off against Miss State whille TT was our top running back.

Even the camera men were totally lost.

That was the year Chuck got hurt. Love me some Tony T. But if Chuck doesn't get hurt we possibly go into the bowl game with the head scratcher of the Colorado tie. And playing for a chance at the national championship

You and I are not going to bicker about this again.

You never answered why Chuck had no choice to come back in 1991? Tiny Thompson who was Chucks back up in 1990 was a senior and 2 true freshman are what we opened the season in 91 on the road at Louisville. No sarcasm. Why do you say Chucks decision was made for him? Chuck could have won the Heisman in 1990 or 1991

Chuck Webb just went for 16 more against Ole Miss... That guy was special in 1989. He is still #1 and #2 for best single games rushing. Back in 1989 they played one less regular season game.
I attended every game Webb played. The Ole Miss and Cotton Bowl were my favorites.
