Don't believe him being let go had anything to do with the recruiting scandal under Pruitt. He was not let go until the Spring of '22 which was a couple years into Heup's tenure.

Maybe we can mend that relationship and land his son but AP definitely made it sound like something happened on his dad's way out.
I had heard the kid’s relationships around Knoxville would be a strength for us regardless of the drama with his dad. IMO, it’s a good chance to repair that relationship. I’m encouraged by the recent update. I think Vol.

He was instrumental in landing Henry To'o To'o out of his old High School. Was just a GA or something, not a permanent member of the staff. Probably why he moved on.

His dad sure said good things about TN and the staff about this recruitment on radio last week.

Since we offered in May, Kenny Jr has offers from Ole Miss, A&M, Notre Dame, and Alabama. From what I understand, the Simon family are bought in on the idea of Kenneth continuing the family legacy at Tennessee. The staff handled this very well.

The cupboard that Kiffin got in 2009 was a helluva lot more bare than the cupboard that Fulmer got in 1993.

Fulmer left a worse roster than he inherited. That’s undeniable.
Add back the recruits that bolted due to the timing and it is closer. Hard to expect a buy in from guys wearing ORANGE when they had to look over the Coach’s shoulder in his office and see USC crap.

Kiffin has proved as others have you can be successful without character but it has its costs. We paid a lot.

Do you think Witten will be part of this class too?
I’ll put it this way:

I think recruiting media are sleeping on our chances. Yeah, he’s spent his formative years in Dallas area and Jason is a Cowboy legend. But Cooper has deep roots in East TN through both sides of his family. And I believe Cooper’s best relationships as far as peers are in and around Knoxville.

Texas and A&M will come heavy. They say Bama has outside shot— I don’t buy that. If you asked me what his pick would be if signing day was tomorrow? I‘d say Vol. But it ain’t, and we’ll see.

I know. But on the Sat pregame show, he has been very blunt which I appreciated about the bizarre Tampa 2 off ball scheme in the red zone, the lack of fundamentals in the secondary overall and the awful safety play. Made it hard for me to see his son choosing Banks. So I’d say moving on is a big boost.
