Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I think it's a lot like my blood pressure on days they have those wellness days at work. I go to have my blood pressure taken and I become aware that I'm trying to control my breathing. And I end up making my own blood pressure go up for no damn reason. I can't help myself, happens every time and I don't know why.
Sounds similar to white coat syndrome. You're fine until it's time for the provider to take the vitals lol

Congrats though man!

She’s going to LOVE UT. It might take a little time to get used to all the walking—it definitely isn’t fun at first, but it gets easier, and the campus really isn’t that spread out if you plan your schedule right.

Not sure if it’s still the same, but when I was there I always pulled out a campus map and signed up for classes that were close to each other. It makes a huge difference when you’re not sprinting across campus with five minutes to get to your next class.
I was in engineering so I spent most of my time on The Hill and the Engineering building lol...When I lived on campus, coming from Morrill Hall and Andy Holt were no joke lol...I got back in shape really quick lol

It has changed a lot in the last few years, the current freshman class had the highest scores. Plus, they only accepted something like 11% of instate applicants. Enrollment and those seeking enrollment are easily at an all time high. Maybe it will cure the “Freshman retention rate “ that has kept UT from being ranked way higher overall.

I was a freshman in the fall of 1978, I had several friends from high school that had horrible ACT scores and were still admitted. They lasted one year, but most of them did graduate eventually from MTSU
It's crazy - same for me. Graduated in 98. Daughter is an out of state freshman (Atlanta) and her roomates next year are all from non-southern areas (Chicago, DC, etc.). The dynamics are changing rapdily. Lots of California too. OOS tution/boarding is ~$50k now without scholarships.

Volquest Hotboard 2.0

So, who could be in line to take over the reins of the Tennessee defense? Below are a list of names that that could make sense gathered by the Volquest staff.

Ryan Walters (Washington)

Ryan Walters is an intriguing name as he has head coaching experience with Purdue from 2023-2024. He’s the current defensive coordinator at Washington, having just completed his first season. Walters had some crossover with Josh Heupel at Missouri while in Columbia from 2016-2020 and at Oklahoma (2012). Walters, who coaches defensive backs, has coordinator experience with Missouri and Illinois while also making coaching stops at North Texas, Arizona and Colorado.

Travaris Robinson (Georgia)

Travaris Robinson is the current safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs, a position he’s held since 2024. He’s made a career working with defensive backs while also spending time at Alabama (2022-2023), Miami (2021), South Carolina (2016-2020), Auburn (2006-2007, 2015), Florida (2011-2014), Texas Tech (2010), Southern Miss (2009) and Western Kentucky (2008). While with the Gamecocks, Robinson served as defensive coordinator. Georgia’s defense ranks second in the SEC in points per game at 15.9 this season. Robinson played wide receiver, defensive back and returned kicks for Auburn from 1999-2002 and played for the Falcons and Buccaneers in 2023 after going undrafted.

Clayton White (South Carolina)

Clayton White is the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for South Carolina, a position he’s held since 2021 under Shane Beamer. He was previously the defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach for Western Kentucky from 2017-2020. White coached safeties and was the special teams coordinator for his alma mater, NC State, from 2013-2016 and coached special teams and running backs for UConn from 2011-2012. White has made other stops at Stanford, Western Michigan and Western Carolina throughout his caching career after playing linebacker for the Buccaneers (2003) and Giants (2001-2002). The Gamecocks allowed 22.1 points per game this fall on 353 yards of total defense.

Corey Batoon (Missouri)

Corey Batoon is in his second year as defensive coordinator at Missouri, a squad that ranks No. 10 in total defense this season at 274.8 yards per game. Batoon has an extensive secondary coaching background, having coached safeties at South Alabama (along with DC) from 2021-2023, Hawaii (2018-2019), Florida Atlantic (2017) and Ole Miss (2015-2016). He also served as defensive coordinator while with Hawaii, co-DC with Florida Atlantic and Special Teams Coordinator with the Rebels (also served in two different off the field roles from 2012-2014). Batoon coached defensive line one year at Montana in 1997.

Colin Hitschler (James Madison)

Colin Hitschler is the current defensive coordinator for College Football Playoff bound James Maddison. He’s in his first year in the role with a defense that is nationally ranked second in yards allowed per game (247.6). Hitschler was the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Alabama in 2024 and held the same role at Wisconsin in 2023. Hitschler has spent time at Cincinnati, South Alabama, Arkansas State, Salve Regina (DIII) and with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in off the field roles.

Jim Knowles (Penn State)

He spent the 2025 season at Penn State after three seasons at Ohio State and could be a candidate to be retained on Matt Campbell’s new staff at Penn State. Knowles was previously the DC at Oklahoma State and Duke, was the head coach at Cornell from 2004-09 and was linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss in 2003.
I love that hot board for the most part. Do not want the guy from Georgia. I’m pretty sure he failed as a defensive coordinator somewhere.

Back in the day, we had to walk all the way from the dorms and then up that damn hill. Now, the youngins can just walk across that bridge they put in (softies). Campus is a good deal more 'user friendly' and upgraded from the 80's.

I know this is changing the discussion some, but there was radio mention this morning about if JA would hit the portal again or stay with us (obviously staying would be the most logical option). I didn't realize Joey could come back and what does that do with George and Faizon (I realize he will need a year to learn offense). I love Joey, but doesn't that kind of screw GM over a bit having to wait another year and knowing FB is pushing to play year 2?

At the end of the day, I want to win with best available option no matter the player's name. Just curious for those that are better equipped to speculate than me.

Congrats! I never even considered you had kids.

I bet that girls first word was actually a .gif
I have 3 daughters. I was telling Mrs. Glitch that before long, all the kids would be gone and it would be just me and her again. She told me I was being rude. lol. Then the girls told her to see how long I could go without expressing an original thought since most of what I say is either quoting movie or song lyrics or sending gifs and memes. lol

My strategy was to get up early the day of the SAT, take a bunch of codeine, drink a 6 pack, and smoke as much weed as I was able to in an hour. Ended up scoring in the 99 percentile on Math and English portions. 🤣
