Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Here are the names:

Colin Hitschler (James Madison)

Corey Batoon (Missouri)

Nick Benedetto (Fresno State)

Doug Belk (USC DB)

Chris O’Leary (Western Michigan)

Jim Knowles (Penn State)

Will Muschamp (Georgia Analyst)

Jerod Mayo

Ryan Walters (Washington)

Someone mentioned Mayo the other day. It’s not the worst thought. The position he was put into at NE was a death knell from the beginning. So I don’t fault him for that one bit.

With the changes in college football…. you don’t have to be loaded with NFL talent. You can be loaded with junior/senior transfers that have proven to be above average college football. That has been Indianas approach.
erased because I'm through with this pissing contest.

Also, the reason Heupel likes promoting within is there is normally less turnover with other staff positions.

If you bring in a new DC he will and should have the right to change his staff.

Not saying this won't happen, but I think Heupel tries to avoid too much change at once.
Just protect Rodney Garner, the rest are on the hot seat too.

Any one of those is great with me.

"We are mystified by the actions of the conference." What actions? Not forcing their refs to call a biased game to let Virginia beat Duke so UVA and Notre Dame would get in over JMU and Miami?

It was clear the committee was going to put an ACC team in. If UVA won it would have been the Wahoos. But the committee did a good job painting it as a H2H comparison between Miami and ND.

Indiana QB is a 1st round draft pick, other than that the rest are mid to late round talent.. NFL talent that is...
I honestly haven't studied their roster to know in great detail but I was just specifically talking about the defense. I'm sure there is talent but I didn't see first rounders jumping off the page like some other teams. I just thought they were impressive in how fundamentally sound they were at all 3 levels. We couldn't even get lined up this year about 25% of the time. It was just tough to watch. Still have no idea how we regressed so much in one year but it just seemed like something was way off the entire year. I try and keep my mouth shut while they are still on staff and during the season but since Heupel pulled the trigger it's fair game now. I want to see Tennessee play elite defense again.

At first I was actually pissed for ND, mostly because of my disdain for Bama but also because of what Bama has shown as of late. But they way they’re responding to this, they’re just a bunch of whiny babies.

great list.

No info at all but my money is on Ryan Walters. Has been on two different staffs with Heup and there’s some instability at Washington with Jedd Fisch ostensibly not being a fan of the area/job.

Question is whether he likes to and wants to recruit. You want a harder nosed football team, he’s about as hard as it gets. Another Question is whether hype and him clash

You bring up a lot of good points that I agree with. I would add injuries, inexperience, and turnover. This team not only is young, this has been a year of turmoil. It's like when daddy dies and the fourteen year-old has to take over the farm. This year is the exact opposite of last year. Last year we had to tip toe around the offense and we turned the d loose. This year we had to baby thed and cut loose the offense.
You are correct about the injuries and youth but when it comes to basic fundamentals there is no excuse. I find it hard to understand why these basic things aren't just taught but drilled into the players everyday. It really comes down to coaching. Don't do anything to give the other team an advantage and stop them from moving the ball forward period. That is basic I know but it seems like they have skipped these steps all year. Those things get you gone as it apparently has now.

For the 300th time. Cignetti brought these underachievers with him from James Madison. His staff have coached these underachievers up from Freshman status, yes they do get portal help JUST like EVERY other team in America does. You must have a real disdain for the underachievers developing into really good players...

Only 4 of the starters are from JMU btw

Portal depends on your team. Some teams go all out in the portal because they need to and some don’t.

Heupel is probably more annoyed than any of us with Banks.

You can say what you want about the offensive struggles, but the offense was a top 5 unit nationally all year and we are headed to the Music City Bowl. That tells you all you need to know really.
You could see it in his body language late in the season. That's why I was pretty certain he was going to make a change. He just gave Banks time to try and find another job. His inability to accomplish that gives a little glimpse in what other coaches think of his ability. He's clearly a good coach but he was being paid to be elite.

Yes. The stars of the defense.. the DE Kamara. The MIddle linebacker Fisher and the CB ...not Ponds but the other dude. They came with Cignetti..

doesn't matter though , some refuse to give credit where credit is due..the fact is Indiana has the #2 defense in America with a bunch of lowly rated players out of high school.

That is the same that stuck out to me too. Looks like the most points Washington allowed all year was 26 to Oregon (I think)

I don’t think we’ll hire from within here. Not for this. It’s too important. If you just promote Inge, we would have been better off just keeping Banks for stability purposes. I think it will be an outside name.
AP said he thinks we go outside with the hire - Inge is just coaching for the bowl game

The expectation when Inge was brought in was that he would be promoted when Banks left for greener pastures. Hasn't exactly broken like that. Just a guess. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw Co-DCs.
