Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Someone help me out.
The other day someone in this thread explained what needed to happen today for ND to be left out. I can’t find the post. I’m pretty sure it was here but there are several threads I read but don’t post much. Anyone remember that? tmp.gif

Losing McCoy and Gibson had nothing to do with the front 7 being awful and teams running it down our throats. It also had nothing to do with starting two safeties that were probably the worst duo in the league. AND the two corners we played were a projected draft pick and a a freshman that’s going make the all freshman team. So it’s not like we were playing two walk ons out there getting torched.

Today is my last day to put on the uniform. This is my last weekend of Army National Guard service. Tomorrow is a Christmas Family Day so we will wear normal people clothes. 28 years seems like a blink of an eye when you get to the end of it.
I know you take a lot of crap. Very appreciative of your service and dedication. Enjoy your well earned retirement.

I love what Heup has done for this program and how he has uplifted it. However, if he allows banks to return then he 100% deserves to be on the hot seat next year. He would essentially be tying himself to a mediocre at best DC which would be unfortunate. You can tell makes staff changes is that is hard for him and probably weighs on him. He’s got to be the bad guy this offseason though.
If he lets Banks back in the building, and his team then proceeds to put up another mediocre campaign?

Yes, he will have earned every bit of the heat being applied to his ass.

I don't think he on the hotseat unless we have a worse season next year, regardless of who our DC is. Not sure he should be at all unless we have a losing record.

Last seasons DL was an NFL DL. That's the difference imo. It hides the flaws because the QB doesn't have time. Kind of like how Josh Dobbs hid the issues in the program. But last season means nothing. This year. Year five. Was objectively beyond disaster all around.
I definitely agree this year was a disaster, but I dont understand why coach Garner doesnt get more blowback..? It's like he has an immunity of criticism. To be frank...the DL disappears in most big games.

Our players were constantly out of position, taking bad angles, going half speed, and missing tackles left and right. Not to mention the terrible defensive play calls. Every bit of that is coaching.

He turned over the entire line. A drop off is expected. It's a really good DL but if we just take a moment of rewatch or reminisce, the QB didn't sit there all day to pick us apart. Cats were open quick and it's not because the DBs were consistently burned all season. Redmond in the first half, yes. But he was good toward the end. Garner also has decades of success. He gets the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to get portal guys.

They definitely underperformed. The difference is that he has a long history of overperforming units, so this year having a bad one is an exception to the rule.

Last year, Banks had an exception to his rule of underperformance.

But I agree, Garner deserves some criticism for this year. Especially for how poorly we set the edge all year. Very undisciplined.

Yeah... 2 NFL corners doesn't completely change your scheme...uhm it does...😅🤣We couldn't do what we hoped to schematically, all season. Defense wasn't built to stuff the rest, it was built around the studs.

Stop joshin' around.
A college defensive coordinator that can only be successful with “NFL Corners”.

That ^ is not something anyone should “hope” to have here.

Agree for the most part. Doesn’t help when WRs are wide open in Banks Defense
By design too, in a bend don't break scheme. We line up behind the line to gain and still backup at the snap. It's unreal.

Tim Banks is just not at the right place. I don't think he's a crappy DC but he is for heupels team and he could see success at a different place

Hope so. He missed his big opp last year after having B2B top notch offenses.

Hopefully don't miss our 2 best DBs next year and we go right back to a top-3 SEC defense like before.

With this fast of an offense, would be another spectacular feat to pull off.
He’s an average coordinator at best. Last year was an exception. That exception was nfl talent. He got demolished playing other teams that had talent like Georgia and Ohio state.
