I don't think the FF wants Heupel gone. I think there are several that want him gone but won't say it.

I do believe that the majority wants Banks gone.

I still believe the biggest issue with the FF is honesty, from both sides.

Hope we do well in the portal too. Saw the question asked "which is more important higher ranking in recruiting or the portal?"

I think it differs depending on the team. For us right now, I can't say because we need to do really well in both.

If I had to say, Id say recruiting.

But truth is, rankings dont matter and nothing from the FF is worth anything, so forget everything I just said. Not that anyone was paying attention anyway.

My problem with the “Fire Banks” crowd is for his first 4 years the defense improved every season and was elite last year. This year was a big backslide but I think you have to see if we return to a good Defense next season before you start replacement talk. Add too it that CJH was screwed over at OU because fans wanted someone fire, so it would surprise me if Banks was replaced. Other Defensive coaches maybe but it won’t be Banks.

A portion of our fanbase doesnt like him because of his skin color....

Evidence: people wanting to fire him last year and wanting to replace him with white DCs that had underperformed him for years.

I thought last year’s defense was slightly over-rated. We made a living on timely turnovers and 4d stops to end drives.

I agree with you. Took advantage of favorable schedule too.

There are scheme issues that I disagree with. There are some major roster construction issues on the defensive side.

But when someone is calling for the DC to be fired in the middle of the game where you get up 31-0 at Florida or you hold OU to 3 points through 3Q at OU.....

I am inclined to agree with you, here. Recruiting is important because the only proven path so far is to recruit superior athletes and nurture their development in a program. Portal provides a quick burst of improvement but no one has shown how that concept is sustainable year over year. If someone can create consistency by portalling and the method is copied by others, there will be a significant shift away from the importance of incredible recruiting classes. Recruiting will still be important, but portal will be importanter.

Interesting fact.

Points allowed per play is a defensive efficiency metric that normalizes variations in pace.

Our 2025 points allowed per play was still better than 2018 and 2020 Pruitt coached teams and just slightly worse than 2019 team. The 2022, 2023, and 2024 teams absolutely whipped Pruitt's best 2019 team...

Short term this year the doing well in the portal is way more important to Va. Tech than a recruiting ranking.

Georgia needs to continue with recruiting in the top 5 and get a couple of good portal needs.

Thats my train of thought. Lol, we desperately need both.

I don't care what color anyone is, we have to learn to tackle, and stop trying to bump people to the ground. Our 3rd down issues isn't a Banks thing, it's a Tennessee thing. We've been horrible on 3rd down since Chavis. Chaps my hide every time.
