That is one position where you either have it or you don’t. It’s all about confidence. I can kick a 45 yard field goal right now. Doesn’t mean I could do it in a game against Bama. Kicking is all about confidence. Those kids can kick it from 60+ in warm ups. But that’s when there is no pressure.
What about Georgia at home to win the game?

Yes, I'm still pissed Max "Scared Eyes" Gilbert didn't come through when needed.

This PSU fiasco makes me think for all yall out there that want to fire Banks, the earliest that may happen would be after the portal closes. Especially if his replacement hasn't already been identified and has a handshake agreement that he accept the job.

I'm on record that I believe he deserves another year to right the ship but if Jim Knowles said he coming to Knoxville, I'll help Tim pack up his office.

Now we’re just being crazy.

Kicker has one job. It’s all they practice. Every day at practice for a year. Kick it through.

Other positions have a million more responsibilities and have to have much more knowledge.

This is literally an insane rebuttle.

CB and OL to a kicker bahahah
I think you are applying an NFL standard to a young college kicker. He's not perfect and certainly missed a big kick but making the subsequent kick in overtime was pretty impressive. You also have to be confident that if you do send him packing that you can replace him with an absolute clutch kicker that won't miss. Hard to do with college kids. He's a better than average college kicker that also happens to be young. In this particular case you seem to be expecting something that is hard to find and is pretty unfair to the kid. There were many other mistakes in the Georgia game in the last minute that were just as important. Anyway, I just hate to see a young player who is trying his best get literally slaughtered on this sight as the only reason we lost the Georgia game when that's absolutely not a fact. It's a lot harder to make a kick with all that pressure than not false start. Also, his coach didn't help in that situation either by not centering the ball and trying to get some extra yardage.

they had a deal with someone that fell through, right? they had to. no way you take this plunge if you don't feel like you had the next guy lined up. I'll be interested to read the post mortem on this one. AD has to be toast at this point though
I honestly don't know. I've seen videos saying that they Kraft thought he could get Kiffin and other big names. Sounds to me like they thought they were a bigger fish than they actually were. I'm willing to bet there will be a 30 for 30 on this one day. I've never seen a program fall and crumble this fast. They are in a complete rebuild now.

Agree, it takes a different kind of attitude, and whenever the camera pans over to our kid you can tell he doesn't have anything but a full diaper.

Maybe he grows fast it and has ice in his veins next year..........I don't know, but I have little confidence in him as it stands now.

But you also have to factor in bad holds. A holder has 1 job. A longsnapper has 1 job. The kick is a product of the first two. A good holder can clean up a bad snap a lot easier than a good kicker can clean up a bad hold.

We don't see the bad snaps or bad holds as easily or obviously as we see the bad kicks.

Max had some misses that were on him this year. Without a doubt. But I still contend that the Georgia miss was a bad snap and a bad hold. The ball was tilted awkwardly and the kick wasnt even close.

I heard the are also looking at Arizona coach, Brennan, I think. Sandusky aside, PSU is considered a top shelf program historically and otherwise. I might go throw a bag at Fickell. He's on borrowed time at Wisconsin.
I don't see anyone but a bottom feeder coach coming into a program with 2 player signing class. I think they have to wait until next year, fire the AD, ride with an interim. AD makes his hire next year.
