Several years ago, during the Cornbread Occupation I believe, I asked, "Does pride still matter?"

As I sat in the cold during the third quarter the answer revealed itself.

As far as the current iteration of the Vols is concerned it is a resounding, "NO!"

We Vol fans can handle a loss, (even to ARRG! GAG! PUKE! Vanderbilt) it comes with the territory.

What we can't abide are quitters.

Could you imagine Pavia running up the middle against this guy?

The player you referenced wasn’t getting
Paid huge bucks to play. He wanted it. He pushed himself. He had self pride and motivation. Many of our current players seem to lack that. They need to look inside themselves and get that killer instinct. That want and drive to be the best.

Wilson also inspired his fellow players and would get after them if he felt they weren't giving it their all.

Hell, he even got in St. Peyton of New Orleans's face during the 1998 SECG.

THAT right there is EXACTLY what these Heupel teams the last two years have been lacking.

In 22 we saw Hooker, Banks (for better or worse), and others up and down the sidelines during games getting at each other and correcting each other...have not seen that leadership the last two seasons.

OP, that guy would end up playing for Georgia today… Maybe OSU.

One glaring example is about half of the "fans" with season tickets in Sections R thru W. It appeared it was about 50% full during the Vandy game. This is a common occurrence except for the Bama and Georgia type games. I suspect that corporations own many of these seats and give them out as favors. When you pay nothing for a seat, it is real easy to find an excuse to not go to the game. It is embarrassing.

A player of his physical and mental caliber might go elsewhere in today's game but, not someone of his character and integrity. There's hopefully still other players out there like Al who believe they can carry their chosen team on their back and change the outcome of every game. He proved it more than a few times. He changed how the others around him played, on both sides of the ball.

I agree. But, dangle a million dollars in front of most 18/19 year olds and see where they land.

Didn't Pavia turn down several million to change schools? He aint no whore. I think we hate him because he reflects what we aren't. Devoted to winning. That and his big mouth, too.
