Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Not entirely true my friend..say what you want about Nico but the offense was truly predictable last year and I’m not buying the whole Nico playbook malpractice BS..if you put Nico in the offense we had this year i don’t think we lose some of those games..solely on the fact he’s a better runner than Joey.i truly believe last year Josh gave 100% control responsibilities to Haz and fumbled.fast forward to this year Josh was more involved in calling plays,it was a completely different look in comparison.

I don’t think haz put Nico in the best position to score points.if you go back and look at the comments he made i didn’t take it as him saying we sucked from a depth standpoint I think he was implying our OC playing calling sucked and he wasn’t wrong.

Still thinking Nico could see the field and wasn’t overthrowing dudes by 7 yards on every deep ball is wild.

Come on man, people may not have called for it directly but there have been several to insinuate that CJH has reached his ceiling and the sooner we realize that and move on the better we will be.

That is one step short of saying let’s do it this year.
You can believe he's a perennial 8-9 win coach and not want him fired.

Thinking out loud here what if we made RG the DC?..I don’t recall anyone considering that…does he have any history as a DC?
He’s about to hang it up soon and also wants to be close to family in Alabama so I fully expect Golesh to try to snatch him up and won’t be surprised if he heads to The Plains.

Another day, another rant from Smyrna about playing unproven freshmen and sophomores over battle-tested and experienced older players.
Your right
The upperclassmen had our defense playing at an elite level…….

I guess every SEC team outside of Florida scoring 30 plus is a sign of great defense

No we’re weren’t.

Nico was $2.6
George $500k - $1 million
Merk likely 250 - 350k

That’s the cost this year if Nico stayed.

Next year will be around 5-6 million in QBs if Joey stays along with George and Faizon.

Saving around $1.5-2 million depending on Faizon deal which is substantial and mirrors Nico or more. Come on man.

Do you want the defense to resemble the same? Because we can’t put all our money on offense and QBs. WRs will get raises along with bishop and Morris.
Unless Nico was leaving, we would have expected to have Nico, GMac, and Faizon all on the roster for 2026. Nico could have left early sure, but you also can't exactly expect that to happen, especially given how mediocre he was in 2024. Considering we already had Faizon committed in 2024, there was ALWAYS a possibility we would have this group in 2026.

Imagine having a fanbase so stupid that they would be dying for a head coaching change only one year removed from the cfp THIS late in the cycle. Even if you completely disregard all the good our coach has done here… Yeah let’s pick from the leftovers and scraps of coaches out there.

This is so stupid.
It would be an immediate jerking out of the table cloth but without the cool trick. What a mess.

No joke, I had someone call me yesterday and tell me we needed to fire Heupel after ESD and bring in Manny Diaz.
I know I’ll catch $hit for this, but I’ve been a Duke fan for almost 40+ years. Grown up in Durham, have been to several games this year, countless games throughout my life. If anyone (not meaning you) thinks that our football team is undisciplined, go watch Duke. Terrible special teams, terrible penalties, a worse third down % than what we put on the field and Manny is a defensive guy. This is against a very, very mediocre ACC schedule. Somehow, someway, Duke is in Charlotte.

Tell your friend Manny ain’t the guy

I hate watched almost every Nico game this year, he was absolutely 100% the problem last year. Winning 10 games with him at the helm and winning at OU and vs Bama is probably the best coaching job Heupel has done for us in his time here.

Nico is a better runner than Joey though. But it's not like Nico put on a clinic for UCLA. He was a "miss" though...just disappointed it took over 2 years for the staff to accept that.

Nico would have gone pro. Likely 85% chance after this year had he stayed. That was his goal. If he didn’t, I doubt George would stay. Much like I doubt he stays if Joey comes back. All fun to talk about and we all have different opinions. I would rather roll with George/Faizon and spend for an elite defense. Offense is pretty set starter wise and what we have coming in is really good on that side.

It may be just yesterday's rumor.
But I'd like to see PSU hire him and force the Gumps into another coaching search:

You don't know that. GMac came here knowing full well he may have to wait 2 years to get his shot. And no, I don't think it's likely Nico went pro had he stayed. He was and still is an excellent athlete but a mediocre QB.

Even if you accept that GMac could have left, that's only a difference of maybe 500k according to your numbers. So we STILL would have been paying the QB position 4-5 million at minimum.

The offense was ELITE this year, even with a mediocre running game. The only reason we even got to 8 wins this year is because Joey ran the offense extremely well. With Nico on this team, we EASILY lose Ms St and probably Arky too. And the UGA game is another blowout loss.

Add in, this was Joey's first year in the system with only a couple months to learn it and only 1 month of practice time. Acting like GMac or Brandon can come in replicate it is extremely foolish.

Keep most the OL, return the WRs we can, upgrade RB and D and have George/Faizon and whoever QB 3 is battle for the starting job. I don't think Joey will get another year...even if he does I'd want open competition if he's the 3rd QB this off season...but I sure as hell wouldn't pay him 3m.

An 8-4 record at the beginning of the season given the off-season shenanigans is close to where a lot of people thought this team would end up.

For me, it's how the team lost the 4 games and even how they won a couple of the games that is troubling/frustrating.

The defense had major issues this season. There's no denying that. Injuries contributed to that, but cannot be used as an excuse when there were blown coverages, missed assignments, and the defensive line getting pushed around throughout the season.

The offense finishing near the top of the SEC again is nothing to sneeze at, but some of those were empty yards and in some situations, the offense came up empty in the losses.

I do believe that college football has become so out of control on many levels where you're not going to see long-tenured coaches at many places as the expectations they may build become too much and one bad season sends them into a tailspin and fans overreact. (Now, these coaches contracts are insane, so I don't exactly feel sorry for them) But, I think we are and will see decent coaches move around more and restart their clocks if they aren't fired first more and more.

I like Josh Heupel. I appreciate the success he's had after Tennessee football being a laughingstock for more than a decade. I think Heupel is a decent man unlike many in the college football world. Those 2 things alone are enough for me to want him to succeed. But, to do that going forward, there's going to have to be some changes made and I hope he makes the right ones going forward.

Now more than ever in college sports it's about cheering for the program from year to year because none of us can be sure of who will be playing for them or who will be coaching them.

I hope we get through the early signing period and get the bulk of this class across the finish line and then hit the portal hard with many quality players because to improve next season, this team will need it.

so would you rather have a overthrow ball or under throw ball?..are you confident in saying our receivers are top tier after watching them this year or? so many factors to consider…but Nico played better in space creating plays with his feet. last year they made him more of a pocket QB in my opinion.im not saying confidently id take Nico over Joey im just saying both offense were night and day different.i liked the play calling better this year I just wish JH would fix his clock management.

Our WRs are very good.

I’d rather under throw bc you can get DPI and it gives your WR a chance to make a play.

Nico definitely better with legs. Joey’s biggest limitation.

I’ve wondered if Lane was actually waiting to see if Alabama would open up- and found out it’s not. If it does, I’d be surprised if he didn’t jilt LSU.

Congrats fans on your contributions to our program this year. Don’t let people say you don’t matter. Ticket sales will likely be around $50-$55 million this year. With the 10% talent fee, we supported at least around 25% for this roster. That is before contributions to the NIL fund. Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t important!

Cool but you ignored the bold part of my comments that have been said on here
