Is This The Biggest UT-Vandy Game of the TV Era?

The biggest one that I can recall, and it’s amplified by Diego Pavia trash-talking before the season that “Vanderbilt is going to run the state.” Shockingly, they’ve actually had a strong year. Nothing would make me happier than watching the Vols absolutely dismantle them, not just because it’s Vanderbilt, but because it would shut Pavia up and humble him some.

And this only adds more fuel to the fire. If ever a player was due for a commupance, it's this cocky prick.

With neither team directly playing for anything that is of significance (SEC title game appearance, national title playoff appearance or an undefeated season), no. It's not necessarily the biggest UT-VU game in the 📺 era. But the hype machine is in full effect for this one. Should be a lot of fun.

Vandy is usually a guaranteed win so this one is certainly the toughest in long time, but for Heupel, it's the biggest game of his tenure in terms of the impact on his future at UT. A win give him a shot at another 10 win season which would be remarkable and it keep our momentum going. A loss and the fallout will be enormous for him on so many levels. Said it before, but this will be the most important game of his career at UT, and he certainly knows and feels it. I'll be curious to see how he responds. Will he turtle up again? Gonna be interesting for sure.
Moving the goalposts, last week all of this hinged on winning in Gainesville. Most people said 2 weeks ago he needed to win at least 1 or the other, preferably both of course but definitely not lose both. Pavia is a generational player for Vanderbilt. I want to beat him but its not sackcloth and ashes time if we lose to the best player they have had in 50+ years.

It’s about damn time that Little Brother did their part and brought a little something to the rivalry weekend.

They are the reason our game doesn’t have an official name or a trophy.

Last years was much bigger-for us anyway

We had to win to guarantee our playoff spot.

Believe we got down 14-0 early also in that game didn't we? I remember getting stuck waiting for my pizza and missing the first few minutes of the game and being shocked when I turned it on.

We really aren't playing for anything except pride Saturday. We are already going to a decent bowl (if such a thing still exists). Well, there is the added benefit of breaking Vandy's heart-which to me will be the sweetest part
When I hear bowl game, it’s a let down. No one cares and it’s all about NIL and what kind of team can you assemble. I have my reservations about where the greatest sport is going for Universities.

It's going straight down the turlet.

At this point, I just hoping for some semblance of what used to be CFB being around.

Luckily, I don't have that many decades left so I anticipate I will probably be moving on before the entire thing implodes lol.

Not moving the goalposts at all. Between the two, Heupel has to have this one. UF has owned us so a loss to them would be somewhat expected. Fans would moan, but they'd explain it away as being just what UF does when they play UT. Lose to Vandy and that's an entirely different animal. That outcome would really rattle cages and Heupel would lose a ton of goodwill.

No, this is the critical game of this season for Heupel. He just can't afford to lose it. Pulling hard for him.

He also said Vandy “could beat TN any given Saturday” BEFORE last year’s game.

We all know how that turned out for him. Big mouths don’t win games.

This is literally the best Vandy team since World War 2 ended. I think most people with a luck of sense realize this would not be a standard fare "loss to Vandy".

A lot of eyes will be on it. It’s probably one of the biggest of the entire series. The cost of losing is also pretty big for both teams, so the stakes matter.

We need the ghost of Johnny Majors firing up the team with a pregame speech.Recollecting when Auburn came to town with Bo Jackson and the tee off on that pint sized quarterback with a big mouth likewise.

A stat that I saw this morning. Vandy’s record against a ranked UT team:
Overall- 1 and 41
At Neyland- 0 and 22

Also, per SEC This Morning, Lea signed a 6 year extension with Vandy.

I saw a stat recently that said we hadn't won at the swamp in over 20 years. Just sayin'.

True. But it’s pretty obvious that Vandy is facing a different team and situation tomorrow than what we faced last Saturday. Florida is nowhere near as good a team as UT and The Swamp didn’t look nearly as intimidating as normal. We took the crowd out early. Neyland will be off the chain tomorrow.

And there is the question of how Vandy will handle the pressure. They haven’t been in this situation before. Will they be up to it? Should be interesting.

Win tomorrow and I’m content with the season, not happy. Lose and the season is a total failure with only a nice footnote about how JA performed admirably.
