This is what's killed the Maui invitational and other great OOC tournaments. It's only for the "Have's" of college basketball too.

No more amazing Maui games, second tier P5 teams to mid majors do not apply and all for a European soccer style tournament. Duuuuummmmbbb

3 and 4 play for 3rd. To me, the dumb part is the difference in money. 1st gets $1 million while 3rd gets $300k. Both go 3-0 and beat 2 great teams. You lose $700k based on point differential.

Randy McCall is one of the best referees in all of college sports. He's done multiple final 4s and is well liked/respected by most coaches.

Olandis Poole has a bit of a checkered past with the NBA. Kentucky wildcat fans hate his guts, so that's a positive trait in a referee.

Edwin Young mainly works big10 games. He was one of the referees in the 2022 game between St Peter's and Kentucky (KY lost), so he's also on Kentucky's "poopy ref" list. Which means he's fair.



the point..... none of these refs are from the SEC conference or live/work in Birmingham, so there's no bias against the VOLS. It was fairly called, for such a physical game. Don't forget when you compare how many fouls were called.... Houston was fouling to stop the clock at the end
