The Official #17 vs. #3 Houston Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, TNT

Don't sweat it. No one's gonna care one damn bit if a team does or doesn't win the "Players Era" event. Tennessee upsetting Houston is already going to be the biggest story for the Vols coming out of this thing. All they need to do is beat the last team in front of them and come out of it 8-0, 3rd place or 1st place won't mean a thing in the long run. Hell, if it's a slightly easier game, so much the better. The big W's already in the bag, and then let the media run with the "yeah but was Tennessee actually the best team there?" narrative for a month or two.
Absolutely right. Beating number 2 Houston was sweet.

Held Sharp to 8 vs 18.
Boswell played like the upperclass leader he is
Gillespie is the create his own shot a lot of fans here, myself included, has begged for
Ament is the best Freshman that can creating and draw fouls I can remember in nun yo business, especially knowing he’s been given a lead this team role too.
Carey got carried away at times but that’s what I love about him. He’s what used to be called a spaz, in the best way at times.
BlocPara is the guy that won’t get enough credit all year, but this squad would look like and BE much more beatable without.
And my guy #77!!!! He’s got(and this needs to include Boswell) that defensive attitude that’s contagious and this team needs like air.

Great game great win

So Auburn or Michigan wins by less than 4 then we’re in championship game I think.

Iowa State & Vols are tied in points but we’re 1st because of point differential. So as long as winner of this one stays under 161 points we’re in.

Tennessee did to Houston in the 2nd half exactly what Houston did to Tennessee for much of the 1st half.

Clamp down defense, deny the 3, ferocious on-ball defense with help defenders at the top of the key. Houston looked as helpless as we did, perhaps more so given that we didn’t get the benefit of being white hot from 3 like they were in the 1st half.

My only complaint was the handling of the final 30 seconds. We had fouls to give. Boswell should foul Uzan driving to the basket instead of letting up and giving him a free 2 pts with 11 secs left. Then he should have fouled Flemings as soon as he crossed halfcourt before he got off a 3-pt shot with 7 secs left. Make them inbound the ball (they had no TOs) twice there and run more clock. Curious what Barnes wanted there, but man, I don't like hiw that was handled.

Great game from the boys in Orange, otherwise!

That's about the 5th time you've mentioned something about Ament's physical development. I sure am glad Barnes put him back in the game. Everyone knows he needs to get a little stronger but he got physical when he came back in the game tonight
Only 5? Whew. For a minute there I thought maybe I'd overdone it a bit. ;)

A game where Nate can learn a lot cause honestly that was one where things were called really poorly against him specifically. All 3 of his fouls were iffy and he only made 4 trips to the line when he could have easily made double that with how physical he was being defended.

JG was clutch him and Flemings for Houston went toe to toe and it was something to watch this early in the season. Going 9 of 9 at the charity stripe to ice that one was big time.

Bishop showed all the doubters why Barnes & staff love him and why he's starting what a damn effort end to end, 10 points 100% FG, 2 of 4 from the line 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a block while playing elite level defense on the perimeter.

That game was the exact matchup for why they brought Jaylen here & he delivered 13 points on 6 of 11 with 7 rebounds and he also was getting mugged and should have had more FTs than 2.

JP with limited minutes, but he's sooooo damn productive 8 points on 3 of 3 shooting went 2 of 2 at the line and grabbed 5 rebounds in just 13 minutes. Sooner he's 100% again the better.

Only played 9, you saw who Barnes favored in this matchup but man what a deep team we have. Can play all 13 and honestly got at least 10 that can give you quality minutes every night.

So damn excited that this was only game 7 and they can get better!
… I’m trying to figger what to do with my hands…
